Battery has been improving rapidly over the past few years with new technology emerging on a daily basis, but it’s rare that we actually experience something groundbreaking. Semi-solid-state batteries have been long rumored, yet their adoption is very limited as we are yet to see makers crack the secret to manufacturing at scale.

Dimentro is now there and is beginning production of the Dimentro DP-Pro, which is the first production e-bike in the world with a semi-solid-state battery. It is not a prototype, but an actual e-bike you can buy and we were able to take it for a run.

Semi-solid-state batteries use a gel for an electrode. This method is not as advanced as solid-state but is the intermediate step before getting to a solid-state battery.

Pricing and production

The first units will be delivered to customers at the beginning of 2026, whereas for now a test unit is travelling around Europe, showcasing its capabilities with test drives.

The price of the bike starts at $9,300 for most European countries. Despite the massive technological leap, this price seriously undercuts competitors that offer similar power and range figures like Zero, Livewire or Energica.

The test unit we experienced is an early production model that is identical to the units customers will get. Likely, some bugs and minor defects will be cleared, but there won’t be hardware changes.

Practicality and utility

One thing the DP-Pro loses over its Li-Ion version DP-03 is the storage space. The 96V 120 Ah semi-solid-state battery is no longer removable either. The 10.7 kWh usable battery capacity, however, offers significantly more range on a single charge than previous models.

The price of the technological advancements is the loss of all storage. You can only install an auxiliary box on the back of the rear seat and that is all.

Range and speed

The impressive range figure stands at 155 miles, when you drive at 50 mph. The guy from Dimentro assured us he has actually performed a full range test and got even better results in the real world. Even if we stick to the manufacturer’s official claims, they are still about twice what rivals can do.

The top speed is limited to 81 mph, which is the highest of any Dimentro model. Without a limiter a speed of 99 mph is possible, yet those figures will require extra certifications and Dimentro chose to stick to the more conservative figure.

Charging and battery info

Two big benefits of the semi-solid-state battery compared to traditional liquid ones are safety and better charging times.

Safety is further improved in case of impact as the batteries are less prone to catch fire if pierced through. Everybody that’s into bikes must know the dangers of falling and that added safety adds a bit of confidence when purchasing.

Charging is quite solid. A charge from 0 to 80% takes 1.5 hours. That is matching the competitors, but their battery sizes are nowhere near as big. You can charge from home or public chargers and that makes the DP-Pro perfect for all use cases.

You charge the bike without removing the battery.

Obviously, true solid state batteries will offer much quicker charging times, more compact battery packs and even higher safety ratings. However, for now, the semi-solid state batteries are a big leap forward and certainly help push the limits of electric Mobility. We are eager to test them in some new EVs in the near future.

Driving experience

We only drove the Dimentro DP-Pro around the block of the showroom. It was still a fun experience and made us even more enthusiastic to get more time with it in the future. It is not the lightest bike at 408 lb but feels manageable.

It accelerates swiftly thanks to the 10.8 kW and 55 Nm power output. The full 20 kW power is only available past certain speeds we couldn’t achieve. From 0 to 31 mph it takes only 1.74 seconds, which is more than sufficient for city traffic.

ABS and traction control come as standard to increase usability and ensure safer driving.

The smart 7″ screen offers not only the crucial info but can also display Android auto.

An NFC system makes it easier to start the bike. You simply slide the NFC key over the mat and the DP-Pro is ready to drive. You can also start it with a regular key or with your phone via an app.

Verdict

We don’t usually review e-bikes and focus primarily on cars. However, such technology is not one you can miss and we appreciate when something new is done properly. We hope to see semi-solid state packs in more cars in the near future and especially so well implemented.

Dimentro has done a fantastic job with the DP-Pro. It is not just a fancy technological exercise, but an actual product that really improves your everyday experience. Most new technologies cost a fortune until they are properly scaled, whereas Dimentro has managed to even undercut rivals in terms of price while being a pioneer with its semi-solid state tech.

Range, charging time and power account for a great all-around product and a fantastic proposition. It is not surprising that Dimentro is quickly expanding in Europe as its models are highly competitive and affordable.
