Electric cars often come with a high price tag that makes many drivers look the other way, and Dacia wants to change that. The car maker just announced that the 2026 Dacia Spring will start at a remarkably low price of $16,810 in the UK. This low cost is possible because the company is offering its own “Dacia Electric Car Grant,” which slashes $5,150 off the normal price. This should help the small hatchback keep its crown as the most affordable new electric car in the United Kingdom.

The price might be small, but the updates for the 2026 model are quite big. Dacia updated the chassis and the suspension to make the ride smoother. The company also upgraded the brakes to give drivers more confidence. These changes mean the car should feel more solid and safe when you are driving through busy city streets or down a bumpy backroad. Even with these upgrades, Dacia kept the car light. At under 2,200 lb, it is one of the lightest EVs on the road today.

An even more important upgrade is the new type of battery – the 2026 Spring uses a 24.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. This technology is better for the environment and lasts a long time. It gives the car a driving range of up to 140 miles. For most people, that is enough to drive to work and run errands for an entire week without needing to plug in. When the battery does run low, a new 40 kW fast charger can fill it from 20 percent to 80 percent in only 29 minutes.

Drivers can choose between two different power levels. The base model, called the Expression, features a 70 hp motor. If you want a bit more pep, the Extreme model comes with a 100 hp motor. The Expression model starts at $21,960 before the grant, while the more powerful Extreme model costs $23,330. Once you apply the $5,150 grant, those prices drop to $16,810 and $18,180. It is rare to see electric cars priced this closely to old-fashioned gas cars, which is exactly what Dacia intended to do.

Inside the cabin, the 2026 Dacia Spring looks modern and clean. Every model comes with a 7-inch digital screen for the driver. This screen shows speed and battery life clearly. If you pick the Extreme version, you also get a large 10.1-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard – this screen connects to your phone wirelessly. The interior also features a clever system called “YouClip,” which allows you to snap on different accessories like cup holders or phone mounts wherever you need them most.

The car is small, measuring about 12.1 ft long, which makes it very easy to park in tight spaces, and yet it still offers plenty of features. Even the cheapest version includes air conditioning, cruise control, and rear parking sensors. The Extreme version adds fancy copper trim, a reverse camera, and a Vehicle-to-Load feature that lets you plug electric tools or appliances into the car to power them. You can order the car in six colors, including a new light green called Seafoam.

Dacia is now taking orders for the 2026 Spring. The company expects to deliver the first cars to customers in the spring of 2026. By keeping the technology simple and the price low, Dacia is making it easier for regular families to switch to electric cars.
