Continental’s Sustainability Vision Global Approval from CDP… Focusing on sustainability in all its processes, from raw material supply to production, from energy investments to water saving, Continental received an “A-” rating in the climate category and an “A” rating in water management for the second time in a row in the 2025 evaluation of the independent environmental reporting organization CDP.B.” he noted, once again documenting his determination on this issue.
Today, combating global warming is no longer just a responsibility for companies, but a strategic priority. Continental positions sustainability as a long-term strategy integrated into the entire value chain, beyond operational practices. It aims to systematically reduce environmental impact through the use of renewable energy, resource efficiency and sustainable raw material applications. In this context, Continental, which has been participating in CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) evaluations regularly for 15 years, was awarded an “A-” degree, representing the “Leadership” level, with its approach to mitigating climate change, progress in reducing CO₂ emissions and supply chain transparency.

Underlining the company’s sustainability vision, Continental Tires Head of Sustainability Jorge Almeida summarizes the process with the following words: “We constantly optimize all our processes at all stages of a tire’s life cycle, from raw material supply to production, from usage process to end-of-life management. We continue climate action with determination, both in our own operations and through the collaborations we establish with our suppliers.”
Aims for Low Carbon with Green Energy Investments
Continental has been supplying green energy within the scope of the RE100 initiative since 2020 in order to reduce the carbon footprint of its operational processes. In addition to photovoltaic systems in its facilities, the company also reduces Scope 2 emissions by increasing the use of renewable energy through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). In addition, it continues to minimize CO₂ emissions with energy efficiency studies such as insulation applications and LED conversion.
Saving 79 Olympic Pools of Water in 5 Years
Efficient use of water, which is critical in tire production, is at the center of Continental’s environmental goals. Between 2020 and 2025, the company reduced water withdrawal per product by more than 10 percent in all its production facilities, saving a total of 197 million liters of water. It reached this volume, which is enough to fill 79 Olympic swimming pools, thanks to more efficient use, purification and recycling of water.
From Rice Husk to Technology: The Sustainable Raw Material Difference
Prioritizing transparent and traceable supply chains in the fight against climate change, Continental carries out a wide range of activities, from training for small-scale farmers to digital monitoring systems for responsible natural rubber production. The company also accelerates research on alternative raw materials to reduce its environmental footprint and makes a difference in the sector with innovative solutions such as silica obtained from rice husk ash, tall oil, a by-product of the paper industry, and polyester fibers produced from recycled PET bottles.
What Does CDP Evaluation Mean?
CDP evaluates companies on a scale from A to D under headings such as “emission reduction initiatives”, “low carbon products” and “environmental policies”. The evaluation process covers not only the companies’ own operations but also their impact on their supply chains. The “A-” rating received by Continental indicates a performance close to leadership level in the fight against climate change. The “B” grade received for the second consecutive time in water management reveals steady progress in the field of resource efficiency. Continental has been participating in CDP assessments for 15 years and continues to report its sustainability performance transparently.
