As the global Automotive Industry continues its transformation towards high-quality development, Chery continues to strengthen its production and R&D power with new collaborations. In this context, the company signed a framework agreement with Bosch in Beijing for the joint development and mass production of 48V vehicle architecture. With this agreement, the two parties deepened their strategic cooperation for the pioneering production of the next generation 48V vehicle architecture in China.
System weight decreased, response speed increased!
Increasing demand for high-performance components such as in-vehicle computing systems, smart cockpits and by-wire chassis technologies has caused traditional 12V electrical systems to reach their power limits. Therefore, the development of 48V electrical architectures that offer higher advantages has now become an industry-wide necessity. Within the framework of this comprehensive collaboration, Chery and Bosch will focus on restructuring the basic electrical architecture of smart vehicles. Jointly developed 48V vehicle architecture; It offers significant advantages such as high power, lightweight structure, high integration, high reliability and high scalability. While the vehicle power capacity was increased to 15kW, the system weight was reduced by more than 10 kilograms and the response speed of the steer-by-wire engine was increased by more than 20 percent. In addition, the system has an independent redundant power supply design to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical functions such as intelligent driving, braking and steering in extreme conditions. It is stated that this technology can be adapted to new fields such as robotics in the future. The cooperation between Chery and Bosch has been going on for more than 25 years and during this period, common technological achievements have been achieved in many areas. In October 2024, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on the 48V low voltage system and established a joint preliminary research team. As a result of 18 months of intensive work, the project achieved three main goals: development of vehicle systems and functional prototypes, creation of critical component samples and completion of preliminary research on industrial production processes. These developments created a solid foundation for mass production. The technology is planned to be used first in the flagship model of Chery‘s premium brand EXEED.
With cooperation, mass production will accelerate!
Stating that Chery and Bosch have been maintaining a strategic partnership based on high trust for many years, Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue said, “This 48V vehicle project is a joint step for the identification and rapid implementation of new generation vehicle system solutions. This cooperation is an important stage in building a technology ecosystem for the global market and leading the transformation of electrical architectures. Chery will continue to see technological innovation as the main driving force, strengthening product innovation, accelerating business model transformation and transitioning to the global high-tech ecosystem.” “It will speed it up,” he said. Making a statement on the subject, Stefan Hartung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Robert Bosch GmbH, said: “The deepening of this strategic cooperation shows that the 25-year strong partnership between Bosch and Chery has reached a new level. In line with the accelerating electrification and smart transformation trends on a global scale, Bosch will fully demonstrate its experience in the development of low voltage system components and industrial production. Chery‘s vehicle development competence, power network system definitions and power in local and international markets, combined with mass production of new generation 48V vehicles and “We will accelerate its scaling.”
Smart mobility transformation will be supported!
The global Automotive Industry is currently at a critical turning point in terms of electrification and smart transformation. This collaboration stands out as an important step for Chery to advance its artificial intelligence strategy covering all areas and realize its “Global Innovation System No Complacency” vision. The joint development of the 48V low voltage system and the acceleration of mass production will support the transformation of the industry by providing a new generation of electrical architecture for global smart mobility. Senior executives from both companies attended the signing ceremony. On the Chery side, Yin Tongyue (Chairman of the Board), Gao Xinhua and Qi Shilong (Executive Vice Presidents), Wang Ting and Xie Baojun (Vice Presidents); On the Bosch side, Dr. Stefan Hartung (Chairman of the Board of Directors), Markus Heyn (President of Bosch Mobility), Andreas Dempf (Vice President of Sales), Xu Daquan (President of Bosch China), Wang Weiliang (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bosch Mobility China), Zhang Ying (Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bosch Mobility China) and other senior executives were present.
