Only Red Bull and Ferrari on the track A fundamentally calm day ended in Barcelona. In fact, day 2 of the tests saw only two teams at work, albeit very high-end ones: Ferrari and Red Bull. The works were affected by the rain that hit the Catalan track starting at the end of the morning, complicating the teams’ activity but not discouraging the drivers and the teams themselves from taking the single-seaters out on track in the afternoon too. The best time was set in the morning by Max Verstappen, who stopped the clock at 1’19″578. Charles Leclerc was one second and three tenths slower, but he completed 64 laps compared to just 27 for Verstappen. In the afternoon, in the rain, the cars passed into the hands of Isack Hadjar and Lewis Hamilton respectively. Also in this case it was Red Bull who recorded the fastest time in 1’31″981. However, Hadjar ended the session badly, going off the track and crashing into the barriers at turn 14. An error that will cost the Red Bull mechanics extra work. Positive debut in these tests for Hamilton: the #44 completed 56 laps (bringing Ferrari’s total to 120) certifying the good reliability – at least in this very first phase of work – of the SF-26.
