The first from Audi
The four circles are ready to take to the track for the first time in a Formula 1 race. The Melbourne GP scheduled for Sunday will be historic, not only because it is the first with the revolutionary 2026 regulations, but also because it marks the debut of theAudiwhich definitively replaced Sauber.
Between shakedown and testing the R26 showed pace and speed to stay in the fray pack. With four teams that have shown themselves to be clearly superior, it is difficult to already aim for the top-10 in Australia, but between Hinwil and Neuburg they don’t want to set limits: the only objective will be to grow and make the most of the car’s potential.
Hülkenberg’s words
“It’s really exciting to go to Melbourne for the first race of a completely new era and for the debut of Audi“, commented Nico Hülkenberg. “It’s been a long journey and it’s taken a long time, but now, finally, we’re here: you can feel the enthusiasm in the team, even in the factories in Hinwil and Neuburg. The work done behind the scenes has been enormous, and now it’s time to turn it into action. Albert Park is a unique circuit, more like a street circuit, and I’m not sure it will be able to fully showcase the potential of all the teams: at the same time, it is a place that can produce chaotic racing. It’s the perfect place to open the season and I can’t wait to get racing again“.

“Starting a new season is always a fantastic feeling, and this is obviously special for all of us, as we begin our journey as Audi“Gabriel added Bortoleto. “The pre-season was important to become familiar with the new car and understand how it behaves with the new rules: we have done a good number of kilometers and I think we have used this time well to complete all the objectives of our program. Now, though, is when things really start to matter. I live for racing and can’t wait to experience the thrill of a race weekend again. It’s the first race of another long season, my second in Formula 1. The new cars offer a fresh start to all drivers, regardless of experience, and this could be a good opportunity. Our aim will be to build a good pace from the start of the weekend and get the most out of the package“.
