From the first ignition to the first laps Last December 19th, at the Swiss headquarters in Hinwil, the Audi team kicked off its adventure in Formula 1, with the fire-up of the power unit that will push the single-seaters of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. Engine that was developed in the German factory in Neuburg, Bavaria, with the entire project also making use of the contribution of the new technology center in Bicester, Great Britain, a sign of a decidedly international approach to work. And Audi – surprisingly – will be the first 2026 car to take to the track and will do so as early as tomorrow, Friday 9 January. This was revealed by the newspapers Auto, Motor und Sport and RacingNews365, who reported how the German team has already booked the Barcelona circuit for the first official laps of its single-seater.
Clearly the weather conditions will not be optimal, given that tomorrow at the Circuit of Catalunya a maximum temperature of 16° is expected, with a minimum of 8°, over an overall sunny day. As per the regulations, Pirelli will not supply the team with race tyres, but with special tyres. Maximum travel distance: 200 km.
Audi on track tomorrow for the shakedown
