What the Aston Martin team principal said
The Australian GP will essentially be a test for Aston Martin whose objective is to hunt for the source of the vibrations that have knocked out the power units – in particular the battery – and which also put the drivers in critical conditions, at least according to what was declared by Adrian Newey.
“Those vibrations are transmitted to the pilots’ fingers – Newey said at the press conference – Alonso thinks he can’t do more than 25 laps in a row before risking permanently damaging his hands. Lance thinks he can’t do more than 15 laps before reaching that limit. I think there’s no point in not being open and honest.”
“I believe the car has enormous development potential – he added – obviously it will take time to fully extract this potential. We are not where we would like to be, but we have the potential to progress.”
Also the president of Honda HRC Koji Watanabe has released an official statement to get its hands on a ‘laboratory’ weekend for Aston Martin-Honda: “Based on the in-depth tests on the dyno, we will introduce what we believe to be the most effective solutions at this stage. Only when the car is on the track will we be able to understand if the countermeasures are effective. Therefore, this week some limitations will be applied to the operation of the engine.”
