Alpine turns on the Mercedes power unit The turning on of the power unit represents the first symbolic act of the new season. For Formula 1, this is the beginning of a new era characterized by engines that will give almost equal importance to thermal and hybrid power. A revolution, in short, and even more so for Alpine, which said goodbye to Renault to marry the Mercedes power units. In a video published on social media, the Enstone team showed the ignition of the first power unit built in Brixworth. “A new era. The A526 is alive”, comments the team referring to the model that will race on the track next season. If from a management perspective there is still great movement after the stormy last few years – in December Chris Horner’s offer to take over 24% of the team’s shares emerged – at least with the drivers the team has opted for continuity: Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto will once again drive the A526 in the season now upon us.
