The Era of Driverless Robotaxi Begins…
Global automotive giant Stellantis took an important step in the competition in the field of autonomous transportation and announced that it has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with the British artificial intelligence company Wayve and the mobility platform Uber. The three companies will work together to develop and commercialize driverless robotaxi vehicles with Level 4 autonomous driving technology.
Within the scope of the new partnership, Stellantis’ vehicle platforms suitable for autonomous driving, Wayve’s artificial intelligence-supported driving software and Uber’s global transportation network will be brought together in a single ecosystem. The aim is to implement safe and scalable robotaxi services in different cities of the world.
London and Tokyo are among the first stops
According to the plans, autonomous mobility services are aimed to be activated in London, Tokyo and approximately 10 cities in different parts of the world in the first phase. While the testing processes are expected to start this year, services are planned to be gradually expanded following successful results.
The artificial intelligence-based system developed by Wayve can work without dependence on high-precision maps, unlike traditional autonomous driving solutions. Thanks to this technology, vehicles can adapt faster to different traffic conditions and city infrastructures.
Stellantis Accelerates Autonomous Mobility
For Stellantis, this agreement is seen as an important part of its strategy for future transportation technologies. While the company expects the robotaxi market to reach a size of billions of dollars in the coming years, it aims to take an early position in this field.
Stellantis Technology and Engineering Director Ned Curic stated that the collaboration will contribute to the development of smarter, safer and more efficient transportation solutions.
Robotaxi Competition Is Intensifying
In recent years, global automotive and technology companies have been investing billions of dollars in driverless transportation technologies. The partnership between Stellantis, Wayve and Uber is considered one of the most important initiatives that can shape the future of the industry.
The partnership is a non-binding framework agreement for now; It paves the way for more comprehensive collaborations in the future in the fields of technology development, licensing and production. Experts think that such strategic partnerships can significantly accelerate the transition of autonomous driving technologies to commercial use.
In the coming period, radical changes in transportation habits are expected to occur with the spread of robotaxi services in European, North American and Asian markets.
