The new generation Alfa Romeo Giulia will arrive in 2028 along with the new Stelvio SUV. Not only that: the bold best-in-class Quadrifoglio sedan will return to compete with the BMW M3 with electric and gasoline engine options. This was reported by Autocar, which interviewed Santo Ficili, CEO of the Biscione company, on the subject. Kim was very clear about one concept: The whole world is not ready for electric vehicles. Alfa Romeo expects new Giulia and Stelvio “We must find a way to meet the needs of our customers. What does this mean? We need to focus on battery electric vehicles as well as all other types of endothermic engines, hence internal combustion engines and plug-in hybrids. This is the direction,” explained Ficili. Therefore, the current Giulia and Stelvio will remain on sale until 2027. When new versions arrive, they will continue to use a new and advanced platform that will allow for a significant improvement in electrical technology, including ultra-fast charging. However, the architecture has been rearranged so that the brand can continue to offer plug-in hybrid powertrains. New platform and different engines According to rumors, both Giulia and Stelvio will increase in size after the transition to the new platform and adopt a more aerodynamic design in order to reduce air resistance and maximize the autonomy of the electric versions. They will also adopt the new Biscione design language introduced with the Junior compact SUV. Internally, however, the use of displays will be largely limited to a single central screen, and Alfa Romeo’s typical “telescope” instrument cluster will be retained, albeit most likely digitised. Quadrifoglio confirmation As for the engine range, the two cars are expected to be initially equipped with four-cylinder turbo petrol engines, later integrated with mild hybrid technology to reduce emissions. It is not yet clear which engine will power the plug-in hybrid versions of Giulia and Stelvio; For fully electric versions, the STLA Large platform can accommodate battery packs with capacities from 85 kWh to 118 kWh for a range of over 640 km. Finally, both Giulia and Stelvio will continue to be crowned with Quadrifoglio versions that will be equipped with both electric and combustion engines.
