Mercedes-Benz USA recalls over 24,000 luxury vehicles due to a universal joint defect that may cause sudden power loss. Affected models from 2018-2020 with 4MATIC.
Mercedes-Benz USA has announced a voluntary recall of over 24,000 luxury sedans, coupes, and wagons due to a mechanical issue that could cause sudden loss of power.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall involves a defect in the universal joint. An investigation found that the joint in certain models may fail. If it breaks while driving, the vehicle would instantly lose power, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. The recall affects a wide range of Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, produced from 2018 to 2020: the E 400 4MATIC (sedan, wagon, convertible, coupe), E 450 4MATIC (sedan, wagon, convertible, coupe), S 450 4MATIC, S 560 4MATIC Coupe, and Maybach S 560 4MATIC.Mercedes-Benz confirmed that authorized dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the defective part free of charge if necessary.
