F1 test, Hamilton 1″ behind Verstappen. Exactly one second. Ferrari’s gap from the top in the rankings of the first official test session does not reassure the fans, but it is worth noting right from the start that all the teams are far from ideal performance, and that evaluating the quality of a project from the first hours of testing is misleading. Lewis Hamilton knows well that this is only the opening day, and that it is too early to make any kind of assessment. The seven-time world champion, commenting on his day, also underlined the importance of the wind factor, which influenced both the behavior of the car and the track conditions. Hamilton’s words “As the track is now, with a lot of dust and sand, with a very strong wind, the behavior in Turn 1 and Turn 4 gave me excellent sensations, but in Turn 6 and 7 I had totally different sensations”, this is his comment to Sky Sport F1. “For the moment the wind has affected a lot.” “It is too early to evaluate whether the starting point is good or not. It depends on how others have worked, what kind of mapping they have,” he added. “Now we just need to try to learn as much as possible and face any kind of problem. I’m happy to see that the team is extremely focused: we lapped a lot in Barcelona in a positive way, I’m happy to be part of the development of this car. In the next few days of testing we will try to develop better than last year.”
Hamilton: “It’s too early to evaluate how we started. The team is extremely focused”
