The new Aston Martin and Alonso’s emotion The official presentation of the Aston Martin AMR26 livery took place in Saudi Arabia with the first words of the most representative men of the British team: in addition to Team Principal Adrian Newey, the two drivers expressed the first comments on the car and the upcoming season, starting with the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard seemed very enthusiastic about being able to tackle his first championship at the wheel of a single-seater designed by Newey, as he admitted during the presentation: “It was a great pride when I realized that I would be driving a car made by Adrian Newey – he commented – I have competed against Adrian for my entire career, and now I can finally drive one of his cars. I think this year will be a great challenge with the new regulations, but I am proud to be part of an official team and to have Honda on our side, as well as Aramco for the challenge on sustainable fuels that are part of the 2026 regulation. So yes, I am very proud to be part of this family and this organization, and I look forward to being successful together.” The ambitions A season that features the already well-known regulation changes, but which do nothing but give an extra push to Alonso: “I think this is a very important moment for the team. It’s the first time that we are an official team and there are many pieces that are coming together: the now completed factory, the wind tunnel and Honda. We also have new regulations, so everything combines in a very important season for the team. I think it’s the start of something important for the next few years. As I said, very proud and excited to be part of the project. We look forward to working at full speed to achieve the success that I think this team deserves in the near future. I think it will be a very interesting season because I think the start in Australia doesn’t count, but I think the second part of the championship will be even more important than the first.” The Canadian enthusiasm Excitement and desire to get on the track that even Lance Stroll didn’t hide: “What excites me most? Everything! The new regulations, the collaboration with Honda and driving a car designed by Adrian Newey is certainly exciting. I was impressed by the commitment and ambition of the team. When I think back to the team we were in in 2021 and when you see everything that happened today at Silverstone, the transformation has been incredible. We want to win. We want to fight for victories and championships in the future, and I think it’s really exciting and motivating for everyone in this team. What I love about being a driver is that I’ve faced various challenges over the years, and it’s just been different. That’s why I wake up in the morning and go racing: to push myself, to challenge me myself, to improve every day, every weekend. This is a new regulation and it’s just another opportunity to test myself and I think about the whole team, and how good we can be.”
Alonso’s pride: “Now I can finally drive a Newey car”
