Is there a sequel to the F1 film? Fans of Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce can hope: the F1 film could have a sequel in the future. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s intention to transform the feature film with Hollywood star Brad Pitt into a franchise is known, given the great commercial success of the debut at the cinema and then on the Apple TV platform, but the GP paddock initially took its time despite appearing increasingly evidently open to possibilities. Last December Stefano Domenicali, great boss of the circus managed by the multinational entertainment giant Liberty Media, had in fact curbed fans’ expectations by recalling how a possible “F1 The Movie 2” could only come about in the presence of a particularly realistic and interesting story that could continue on the path already traced by the first film. Present at an Apple TV press event in Santa Monica, the iconic seaside resort near Los Angeles, California, the manager from Imola showed greater enthusiasm for the idea. Domenicali’s words that give fans hope “Stay tuned”, said Stefano Domenicali answering a specific question regarding the sequel to F1 The Movie. Produced by Apple Original Films and distributed together with Warner Bros, the film grossed approximately 631 million dollars worldwide against approximately 300 in costs, thus achieving a substantial break-even in terms of its release in cinemas (without therefore counting the possible increase in subscriptions to the Apple TV platform), given that half of the cost of tickets usually goes to cinemas. It also recently obtained four nominations (best film, in addition to the three “technical” awards, best special effects, best editing and best sound) at the Oscars ceremony which will be held on March 15, 2026 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. “We’ll tell you more about this in the future,” added Eddie Cue, Apple’s vice president of services. Domenicali, present at the Santa Monica event to celebrate the acquisition of the live broadcast rights of the Formula 1 GPs in the United States by Apple TV, then added: “In any case we have to metabolise the success of the first and therefore if we want to think about a new feature film, we have to make sure it is very good. Relevance is the key to our success, relevance on the right platform”. The F1 film has received positive reviews from the general public, reaching an average of 7.6/10 out of over 300,000 ratings on the IMDb portal, with almost unanimous appreciation for the visual and sound quality. The fans and more expert commentators, however, didn’t like it much, criticizing above all the plot.
