61 laps for the Aston Martin AMR26 On the last day of testing in Barcelona Fernando Alonso was able to cover 61 laps with the Aston Martin AMR26 which arrived at Montmelò for the last two days of Shakedown. The first single-seater from the Lawrence Stroll team designed by Adrian Newey caused a sensation even if for now Alonso remains far from the top in terms of timing. In Barcelona, however, performance was certainly not a priority, even more so for Aston Martin who assembled the cars in recent weeks. “It’s exciting to start the season again, especially this year which is all new with Newey and Honda – said Fernando Alonso – the effort made by the team in the last few weeks to be here in Barcelona was truly impressive. The others had already carried out the filming days, while for us it was truly the first time the car was actually assembled. The day went well, I managed to do a good number of laps and everything worked. Newey always teaches us something, we all constantly look at him to see what his reactions.”
