Positive signs? Of course, the Mercedes seemed like a battleship from the first kilometers on the track and it is no coincidence that it was the one that completed the most laps, 500. But just behind the Silver Arrows were the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who reached the remarkable sum of 440 laps in total. An important result, if we consider for example that Red Bull remained around 300 laps and McLaren close to 290.
Both Leclerc and Hamilton seemed smiling and serene in interviews with F1TV and this can be taken as a positive sign – even more than the Englishman’s best overall time – without prejudice to the fact that both drivers did not launch into judgments or predictions on the balance of power on the track. Vasseur’s comment Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur entrusted his feelings at the end of the Barcelona Shakedown to the team’s press release: “It was a long but overall productive week. We faced different conditions, from wet to dry, managing to complete a significant number of kilometers every day, something fundamental at this stage to collect data and verify the reliability of the car. We did not encounter any significant problems, and this is another important aspect. It is still very early and there is so much to analyze to improve. Now we return to Maranello to work on what we learned this week and prepare for the Bahrain tests, which will be more representative.”
Vasseur calls for calm: “It’s still very early, there’s a lot to analyze to improve”
