F1 test, first problems for Haas First days of shakedown and first – natural – problems for the cars that will inaugurate one of the most revolutionary technical cycles ever in Formula 1. On the third day of work on the Montmeló track, the Audi and Haas stopped: youthful troubles that were completely understandable and which, as far as the team managed by Ayao Komatsu is concerned, do not worry Oliver Bearman at all. Bearman’s words “We’re definitely in the early stages, but first of all I’m really happy to be back on track.
The break was short, but this morning I was ready. The one in Fiorano (where Haas held its first filming day, ed.) was a good warm-up, it rained all day but we completed the program we had planned. Now we’re here to do some dry laps as well”, these are the words of the Brit after this morning’s laps. “The plan is to cover a lot of kilometres. Unfortunately this morning we had a small problem, but that’s what these days are for. We expect to have these problems. It’s more of a question of learning the car and the procedures: today’s problem, with last year’s car, would have taken maybe 30 minutes. Today it took a lot longer just because there are some more complex details in the power unit.” It therefore seems like confirmation that the affected area is that of the engine. “We have already covered more than two races – almost three in fact – without major problems. It’s really impressive for our team and I think everyone should be proud of this achievement. We have ambitious goals and want to continue learning in this car,” he added. “I think every lap is a learning experience for us. It’s the first time I’ve found myself in this situation, with a regulation change that allows us drivers to have such a huge impact on the final result, and it’s a fantastic prospect.”
Bearman: “Nothing serious this morning. A problem that last year we would have solved in half an hour”
