2027 Chevy Sonic Crossover Announced In Brazil

Three and a half months after revealing the first official teaser of Chevrolet’s future vehicle, General Motors has just officially announced the upcoming 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover in Brazil.

The automaker’s Brazilian subsidiary announced the upcoming 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover as Chevrolet’s future entry-level utility vehicle, designed and developed in South America’s largest country on the platform of the successful Chevy Onix hatchback, which is why it was previously expected to be called the Onix crossover. As such, the all-new crossover will revive the global Sonic name, and GM officially describes it as an “SUV Coupe.”

“The Sonic revives a global Chevrolet name, now reinterpreted for a new generation of vehicles that expresses innovation and modernity,” said President of GM South America, Santiago Chamorro. “The new model will complement the brand’s vehicle range and debut in a strategic segment, not yet explored by the brand, that of coupe SUVs,” he added.

GM Brazil announced the name of the upcoming 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover through a series of videos and social media activations, kicking off the product’s marketing campaign in the Brazilian market. The company also took the opportunity to reveal new images of the crossover from the production plant itself, including a camouflaged prototype and previews showcasing various design details.

Based on the same platform and overall body structure as the current-generation Chevy Onix hatchback, the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover will adopt completely new front and rear fascias, giving it a unique look with the brand’s latest global design language. In this regard, the Sonic crossover will have a higher stance with increased ground clearance, muscular fenders with plastic cladding, and roof rails.

The 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover is expected to make its global debut early next year in Brazil and go on sale there during the second quarter of the year. It will be manufactured exclusively at the GM Gravataí plant to supply the Brazilian market, as well as other South American countries and, potentially, other regions of the world. In addition to being the first crossover “coupe,” the Sonic is slated to debut a new flex-hybrid powertrain.
