Newey in Aston Martin With the presentations of the single-seaters getting ever closer, great curiosity increases at the same time not only for the aesthetics of the cars, but also for the performance of the latter, which will have different characteristics from those of 2025. Among the most anticipated cars is the Aston Martin, the first designed by Adrian Newey since his arrival in the Silverstone team. Collective curiosity, in fact, focuses on what the British engineer, who went down in history for having created some of the most successful single-seaters of all time, will be able to do. The ‘hope’, like that of Jock Clear and Damon Hill, is to be able to witness yet another masterpiece by Newey, but among those who have had the opportunity to know and work alongside the designer there are those who urge caution: Sebastian Vettel. The former German driver himself won four consecutive world titles from 2010 to 2013 at the wheel of the Red Bulls created by Newey, but while recognizing the great qualities of his former colleague in an interview on the podcast Beyond the Grid, it is necessary to be realistic on the eve of the latter’s new experience in Aston Martin. Contribution yes, miracle no Newey, according to the former Ferrari driver, can make a fundamental contribution within the team, without however finding an immediate solution to all the problems: “I have been in this paddock for a long time in my life, and everyone is looking for the miracle solution. No one has ever found it, it doesn’t exist – he explained – the magic in Formula 1 begins when everything fits together. Of course, it can be argued that the drivers have a unique position because they drive the car and ultimately they have to do things right. And then there are other people within a team who are really key to the performance, Adrian is definitely one of them, but he needs to be in the right environment as well, I’ve seen him for a while, but he’s been at Red Bull for so long that there’s definitely a possibility that he’s obsessed with racing. He’s really like a kid when it comes to motor racing, and he’s the strongest driver you can have. So if Aston Martin can give him the context, the surroundings, for him to find what he wants, to set him free, then yes, it can be not a panacea, but a great contributor to a great car.”
