Umut Özgür Sunay, otomotiv medyası ve yayıncılığı alanında 20 yıla yaklaşan köklü bir geçmişe, çok yönlü saha tecrübesine ve ileri düzey sektörel uzmanlığa sahip bir yayıncı, gazeteci ve profesyonel test pilotudur.
Medya kariyerine ve girişimcilik yolculuğuna 2007 yılında İstanbul’da kurduğu MediaSun Group ile yön veren Sunay, Türkiye otomotiv basınında nitelikli ve uluslararası standartlardaki yayın projelerini hayata geçirmiştir. Sektöre adım attığı ilk dönemden itibaren vizyoner bir çizgi benimseyen Sunay’ın, ilk amiral gemisi olan 4x4SuperSport Dergisi başta olmak üzere hayata geçirdiği tüm projeler; T.C. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı onaylı, yasal, resmi ve ulusal basılı yayın statüsünde okuyucularla buluşmuştur.
Otomotiv yayıncılığını uluslararası bir boyuta taşımayı hedefleyerek Türkiye’nin ilk uluslararası içerikli, İngilizce ve Türkçe dillerinde yayımlanan otomotiv dergisi World Cars Magazine’i sektöre kazandırmıştır. 2012 yılında ise basılı ve dijital yayıncılıkta kalitenin adresi olan Automobile Magazine Türkiye’yi kurmuş, T.C. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı onaylı ISSN numarasıyla yasal ve etik yayıncılık ilkeleri doğrultusunda ulusal ve uluslararası ölçekte geniş kitlelere ulaştırmıştır.
Sektörel Akreditasyon ve Resmi Otorite: Umut Özgür Sunay, Türkiye Otomobil Sporları Federasyonu (TOSFED) gibi resmi kurumlarda resmi Ulusal Akredite Medya Listesi bünyesinde yer alan, tescilli ve yüksek deneyime sahip saygın bir otomotiv gazetecisidir.

SuperSpor ve Yüksek Performans Öncülüğü: Türkiye’de SuperSport ve süper spor araçların yıllardır ilk profesyonel test sürüşlerini, yol analizlerini ve limit testlerini gerçekleştiren öncü isimlerden biridir.
Yüksek mühendislik ürünü bu araçların aerodinamik yapıları, yüksek hız dengesi ve viraj dinamiklerini en üst seviyede analiz etme konusunda derin bir tecrübeye sahiptir.
4×4 ve Arazi Dinamiklerine Hakimiyet: Ağır arazi şartlarında araç mekaniği, çekiş sistemleri ve zorlu zeminlerde sürüş teknikleri konusunda uzmanlaşmıştır. Bataklık, çamur, dik tırmanma ve derin su geçişlerinde araçların devrilme v.b. sınırlarını analiz edip raporlayabilecek üst düzey bir off-road ve sürüş geçmişine sahiptir.
Savunma Sanayii ve Milli Güvenlik Projeleri Test Pilotluğu: Gelişmiş taktiksel sürüş yetkinliği sayesinde Sunay; Milli Savunma Bakanlığı, İçişleri Bakanlığı ve Özel Kuvvetler Komutanlığı gibi devlet kurumlarının stratejik bünyesinde yer alan ya da savunma sanayii için özel olarak üretilen askeri/sivil taktiksel araç projelerinde test pilotu olarak görev almaktadır.Bu doğrultuda, hem karada hem de suda hareket edebilen yerli üretim YETX N1200 amfibik aracının tüm performans ve sınır testlerini Ankara Mogan Gölü’ndeki özel parkurda başarıyla gerçekleştirmiştir. Sadece bir medya içeriği olmanın ötesine geçen bu süreçte Sunay; devlet kurumlarından gelen üst düzey teknik heyetlerin önünde profesyonel bir demonstrasyon sürüşü gerçekleştirerek aracın gerçek performans ve sınırlarını resmi olarak ortaya koymuştur.
Bugün MediaSun Group çatısı altındaki tüm markaların editoryal vizyonunu, dijital altyapısını ve genel yönetimini sürdüren Umut Özgür Sunay, tarafsız, araştırmacı ve yüksek performans odaklı otomotiv haberciliği misyonuyla Automobile Magazine Genel Yayın Yönetmenliği görevine aktif olarak devam etmektedir.

Umut Özgür Sunay is a publisher, journalist, and professional test driver with nearly two decades of established experience in automotive media and publishing, extensive hands-on field experience, and advanced expertise across the automotive industry.
Sunay began shaping his career in media and entrepreneurship in 2007 with the establishment of MediaSun Group in Istanbul. Since then, he has developed and launched a range of high-quality, internationally oriented publishing projects within the Turkish automotive media landscape. From the earliest stages of his career, Sunay has pursued a distinctly visionary approach to automotive publishing. His projects—including his flagship publication, 4x4SuperSport Magazine—have been published as officially registered, legally compliant national print publications approved by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
With the ambition of bringing Turkish automotive publishing to an international level, Sunay launched World Cars Magazine, Türkiye’s first automotive magazine featuring international content and published bilingually in English and Turkish.
In 2012, he founded Automobile Magazine Türkiye, establishing a new benchmark for quality in both print and digital automotive publishing. The publication has reached broad audiences in Türkiye and internationally while operating in accordance with legal and ethical publishing principles under an official ISSN registration approved by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

His expertise extends well beyond conventional civilian road testing, encompassing vehicle validation and performance assessment under conditions comparable to demanding defense-industry and industrial amphibious testing environments.

Sunay is recognized as one of the pioneering professionals in Türkiye to have conducted professional road tests, performance analyses, and limit testing of supercars and high-performance vehicles for many years.
He possesses extensive experience in analyzing the aerodynamic characteristics, high-speed stability, handling balance, and cornering dynamics of highly engineered performance vehicles at an advanced level.
4×4 & Off-Road Dynamics Expertise
Sunay has developed specialized expertise in vehicle mechanics, traction systems, and advanced driving techniques under severe off-road conditions.
His extensive off-road background includes testing vehicles in swamps, deep mud, steep climbs, and deep-water crossings, enabling him to analyze and report on critical vehicle limits, including rollover tendencies, traction performance, stability, and overall vehicle behavior under extreme terrain conditions.
Test Pilot for Defense Industry & National Security Projects
Through his advanced tactical driving capabilities, Sunay has served as a test driver and test pilot on military and civilian tactical vehicle projects developed for, or operating within the strategic sphere of, government institutions including the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Interior, and the Special Forces Command, as well as projects developed specifically for the defense industry.
As part of this work, Sunay successfully conducted comprehensive performance and limit testing of the YETX N1200, a domestically manufactured amphibious vehicle capable of operating both on land and in water, at a dedicated test course on Lake Mogan in Ankara.
Going beyond the scope of a conventional media production, the process included a professional demonstration drive performed by Sunay in the presence of senior technical delegations representing government institutions. During the demonstration, he professionally evaluated and demonstrated the vehicle’s real-world performance capabilities and operating limits under demanding conditions.
Current Role
Today, Umut Özgür Sunay continues to oversee the editorial vision, digital infrastructure, and overall management of all brands operating under the MediaSun Group.
He also remains actively engaged as Editor-in-Chief of Automobile Magazine, continuing his mission of delivering independent, investigative, technically informed, and high-performance-focused automotive journalism.
Early Passion for Automobiles & Academic Background
Sunay’s passion for automobiles dates back to his childhood. From the age of seven, with the support of family members, he began receiving advanced driving and vehicle-handling instruction in closed-course environments. This early exposure enabled him to develop his driving reflexes and vehicle-control skills to an advanced level from a very young age.
Building an academic foundation alongside his practical achievements in the automotive field, Umut Özgür Sunay studied Media Production and Printing & Publishing Technologies at Marmara University, developing a strong understanding of modern media production, publishing technologies, and the evolving dynamics of contemporary journalism and publishing.
This combination of automotive expertise, professional driving experience, publishing leadership, media production knowledge, and hands-on vehicle testing forms the foundation of Sunay’s distinctive position within the automotive media industry.
