A crucial season However, a fairly widespread pessimism is mounting around the Prancing Horse and its chances for this new era of F1. These gloomy forecasts are fueled – as well as by the progress of the last championship – also by some not necessarily reassuring rumors that filter from Maranello. The former driver and now German TV commentator Ralf Schumacher spoke about it in an intervention in the latest episode of the podcast Backstage Boxengasse Podcast, produced by Sky Germany. Dual development According to information gathered by Ralf Schumacher, Ferrari is attempting to develop two cars. A choice that does not convince the former German driver: “The disaster, as we already hear between the lines, seems to be Ferrari once again – commented Schumacher – this is what stands out most. They are developing two cars and I can almost imagine why, given that Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have completely different opinions on the car. If so, then it is a disaster from the start. I have always said this because you cannot develop two cars”. Another disappointing season for Ferrari could be fatal for Vasseur: “Everything depends on the team’s performance. We have to wait and see how the tests and also the first two races go – acknowledged Ralf Schumacher – but obviously, if things don’t go well, then there will be decisions to make. Everything was focused on this year. We were told that from China onwards nothing else would be done, just the new car, so we expect to be more competitive. If that doesn’t happen, there would be changes. There are some pretty sure. But everyone knows it. It’s nothing new at Ferrari. There’s a wonderful statistic about how many team principals there have been and how many drivers have been replaced.”
