The first missteps in Alpine Between 2025 and the first month of this year, Jack Doohan’s career seemed to have increasingly taken on the appearance of failure, starting with the dream that turned into a nightmare with Alpine. Announced by the French team as the official rider of the 2025 world championship together with Pierre Gasly, the Australian son of Mick (five times world champion in the MotoGP) was rejected after just six races due to results below expectations, with the team deciding to focus on the current Franco Colapinto. The missed opportunity in Japan Since then, Doohan has remained in Alpine’s program as a reserve driver, at least until mid-January, when the team and the driver decided to mutually terminate the contract. However, the hopes of continuing his adventure with single-seaters had come from Japan, with the opportunity to carry out post-season tests in Suzuka at the wheel of Kondo Racing, a team participating in the Super Formula championship. A chance as short as it was disappointing for the Australian, protagonist of three errors in the same corner that pushed the team members to reject the former Alpine. The new chance When everything seemed over, another opportunity opened up for Doohan, and this time in Formula 1. As reported by BBC Sport, Haas has in fact officially announced the hiring of the 23-year-old as a reserve driver, a role that the Australian defined as “the ideal place to continue my career in F1”. Team Principal Ayao Komatsu gave confidence to the former Alpine rider: “The dedication required to stay focused and prepared to race, while learning about the workings of the team and so on, is a challenge for any driver, especially one who is obviously still very keen to compete at this level again.”
