F1 Shakedown, Aston Martin doesn’t take to the track on Tuesday either. The Formula 1 season officially began today, with the cars starting their engines for the first time in the Montmeló shakedown. It is a sui generis “first day of school”, as several teams are missing: Ferrari and McLaren will not run on this day-1, and neither will Aston Martin. Indeed, the Silverstone team will also miss tomorrow’s day: this is reported by colleagues at Autosport, according to whom Adrian Newey’s team will take to the track no earlier than Wednesday (third day of work in Catalonia) and could actually postpone the debut to Thursday, on the penultimate day of the shakedown. The reason for this delay appears to be similar to the one that led Williams to skip the five days of Montmeló: delays in the development of the car. However, Lawrence Stroll’s team personnel are on track. The program Testing in Catalonia began today behind closed doors (even though photos and videos are circulating in foreign newspapers, which are naturally prohibited by Formula 1) and will end on January 30th. The 11 teams in the World Championship can choose only three of the five shakedown days to run: if it were to take to the track on Wednesday, therefore, Aston Martin would not lose mileage, provided of course that it also participates on Thursday and Friday without encountering technical problems. After the week of work in Catalonia, F1 will fly to Bahrain for the official tests on the Sakhir track: first part from 11 to 13 February, second part from 18 to 20 February, then it will be time for the World Championship with the first appointment scheduled in Australia on the weekend of 8 March.
