Tesla Drives on Autopilot in the Heart of Rome, Italy

Tesla is currently testing its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature in Europe, in anticipation of the upcoming customer launch.

A few weeks after showcasing the system’s capabilities on one of Europe’s most challenging real-road scenarios: the Arc de Triomphe roundabout in Paris, France (video available here), Tesla posted a new video around the busy streets of Rome, Italy.  

Navigating through central Rome, from the Capitoline Hill to the Colosseum, means weaving through tight streets, unpredictable traffic, and centuries of history at every turn. This route as chaotic as iconic, reflects a real commute example of many inhabitants of the Eternal City.

In this new video, see how Full Self-Driving (Supervised) safely handles this scenario, reacting to nearby vehicles and motorcycles, navigating efficiently while signaling to other road users, and offering passengers a smooth ride.

These videos were shot in a production Model 3, using the same hardware as vehicles delivered to customers today. Only the software is an engineering test version. 

Today, every Tesla comes standard with Autopilot, providing added safety and convenience. In the future, eligible Tesla vehicles will offer unsupervised Full Self-Driving capabilities, including the current lineup- Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y will be continuously updated over time with additional driver assistance features, moving toward an autonomous future.
