Opel made an assertive start to its new era in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. In addition to its comprehensive team structure, the German manufacturer unveiled for the first time the fully electric new generation racing car Opel GSE 27FE, which produces over 800 HP. The brand also appointed motorsport veteran Jörg Schrott as the leader of its Formula E operation.
Continuing to strengthen its electric mobility strategy with motor sports, Opel announced its new structure in Formula E at the Circuit Paul Ricard track in France. Opel GSE 27FE, the racing car developed on the brand’s new GEN4 platform, attracted attention with its performance and advanced engineering infrastructure.
Jörg Schrott, who played an important role in the brand’s motorsport history, will assume the role of team leader in Opel’s Formula E program. Schrott, who has been working at Opel since 1997 and has worked as Motor Sports Director since 2012, will now be responsible for the management of the Opel GSE Formula E Team.
Opel CEO Florian Huettl stated that Schrott has been shaping the motor sports identity of the brand for many years, and pointed out his success in the ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup project, which especially brings young talents to the electric racing world. Huettl emphasized that Schrott is an important name for the Formula E program with his innovative approach and leadership experience.
Focusing on fully electric racing technologies, Opel aims to carry the engineering experience it gained in Formula E to future GSE road models. Thus, the brand plans to take its vision of electric mobility further by integrating the performance and efficiency technologies developed on the track into mass production vehicles.
