New Approval for Tesla’s Autonomous Driving Software in Europe
Tesla has crossed another important threshold in its autonomous driving goals in Europe. The company’s advanced driving assistance system called “Full Self-Driving Supervised (FSD)” has received official approval in Lithuania.
Thus, Lithuania became the second European country to allow Tesla’s FSD system, after the Netherlands.
Tesla Trying to Overcome Regulatory Obstacle in Europe
Tesla, under the management of Elon Musk, wants to make FSD technology available throughout Europe. However, the process is progressing slower than expected due to the European Union’s strict autonomous driving regulations.
For this reason, the company has turned to country-based regulation processes instead of waiting for collective approval across the EU.
The first big step came from the Netherlands in April 2026. The Netherlands’ vehicle safety authority, RDW, gave permission to use Tesla’s FSD Supervised system after long tests. Now Lithuania has followed the same path.
Elon Musk’s Goal is 10 Million Subscribers
For Tesla, FSD is seen not only as a technological but also a great revenue model.
According to Reuters, Elon Musk aims to reach 10 million active FSD subscribers worldwide by 2035. The company has approximately 1.3 million paid FSD users today.
Although the FSD system offers an advanced technology approaching fully autonomous driving, the driver must carefully monitor the system behind the wheel.
New Approvals are on the Way in Europe
Tesla’s expansion in Europe is expected to accelerate in the coming period.
According to Reuters, the Greek Ministry of Transport is preparing a new law that will allow the use of FSD. Belgium is expected to enter a similar homologation process.
Some European countries can directly recognize the certificate issued by the Netherlands. This may pave the way for Tesla to advance faster in different markets.
Tests Continue in France
It is stated that some Tesla vehicles are being tested with the FSD system in France. However, the system has not been officially put into use yet.
On the other hand, the slow progress in autonomous driving technologies in Europe has recently become a subject of criticism. In the latest report published by the European High Commissioner for Planning, it was warned that the continent fell behind the USA and China in the autonomous vehicle race.
In Which Countries Is Tesla’s FSD System Used?
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Supervised system has now been approved in many countries, especially the USA.
These countries include Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States.
