Cadillac’s ambitions The life of those who enter Formula 1 is not at all simple, and they do so for the first time as a Cadillac. Great efforts are required of the new teams (not only economic, and the Americans know this well after having fought for a long time with the FOM to be able to compete), and strong difficulties must be taken into account, at least at the beginning. Building a competitive team takes time, especially when starting almost from scratch: processes, working methods and internal communication must be tested, while comparison with already established teams immediately highlights the gap in terms of experience and structures. Performance, right now, perhaps takes a back seat, because Cadillac’s goal is to demonstrate that it can stay in F1 in the medium-long term: it is an ambitious project, which will involve General Motors and involves the construction of the first power unit made in the USA in 2029. Formula 1, however, waits for no one, and if Cadillac were the slowest at the start of the championship, criticism would come of the project so desired by the Andretti family. However, Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss took into account some initial stumbles. Towriss’ words “I believe that in the next two weeks of testing in Bahrain we will learn much more about the performance of the cars. Barcelona was above all an opportunity to carry out testing and test the systems, because everything is new for us: it is the first steering column, the first fuel system, and this applies to all the components. So we focus above all on reliability”, these are the words of the American after the presentation of the Cadillac livery. “We’ll start to see how the performance evolves. I think the pace of development will be important for us. I expect we’ll be behind aerodynamically in Melbourne, but as we gather data, the development of this car will proceed quite quickly.”
