The debut year Tonight, with a spectacular television advert aired during the Superbowl – which is already generating controversy – Cadillac presented its single-seater for the 2026 season, that of the historic debut in F1. Inevitably the American team – which enters the golden world of the Circus as the 11th team – has many eyes on it. The question is whether the Americans will be ready for the challenge that awaits them, whether they will be able to compete on equal terms with teams that have much more experience than them or whether they risk being left behind, crushed by the competition. Last place Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the team’s presentation, Sergio Perez tried to provide an immediate answer to this question: “We absolutely don’t have this mentality (of finishing last) – he declared – not because of the level of investments that have been made. We will certainly be very disappointed if we finish last. We know we won’t win the championship, but we want to make a lot of progress and beat a couple of teams.” An ambitious mission, but not impossible nor without recent precedents: when Haas entered F1 in 2016, it came eighth in the Constructors’ standings, putting Manor, Sauber and even Renault behind it. “This is a team that has recruited people from practically all the teams I have worked with – said Perez, who will have the Italian Carlo Pasetti, ex Racing Point/Aston Martin as track engineer – I think that this team, this structure, has the ability to go a long way in this sport. I believe it will become a very important team in the future of Formula 1”, commented the Mexican.
Perez doesn’t make excuses: “Cadillac last? It would be a disappointment”
