BYD has been confirmed as the Official Car Partner of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, underlining the event’s ambition to set new benchmarks for sustainability while showcasing the latest advances in new energy mobility.
The largest sporting event to be held in the UK this year, Glasgow 2026 will take place from 23 July to 2 August, welcoming around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Competitors will contest a world-class programme spanning 10 sports and six Para sports, staged across four iconic venues located along an eight-mile corridor through the city.
As part of the partnership, BYD will supply a fleet of 90 New Energy Vehicles, comprising fully electric and plug-in hybrid models, to support Games-time operations. The vehicles will play a critical role in transporting athletes, support crews and event staff efficiently and with reduced emissions throughout the duration of the Games.
In addition to its role as Official Car Partner, BYD has also been announced as an Official Partner of Team Scotland. The collaboration was marked in Glasgow by Steve Beattie, Deputy Country Manager of BYD UK, and Jade Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer of Glasgow 2026, alongside Glasgow-born swimmer Katie Shanahan. Shanahan, one of Team Scotland’s leading medal prospects, will compete in front of a passionate home crowd when the Games arrive in the city.

Commenting on the partnership, Steve Beattie said BYD was proud to support an event with sustainability at its core. He highlighted the alignment between the organisers’ environmentally responsible vision and BYD’s technology-led approach to reducing emissions, describing the agreement as a natural fit for both parties.
Jade Gallagher echoed those sentiments, noting that Glasgow 2026 aims to be the most environmentally sustainable Commonwealth Games to date. By prioritising the use of existing venues and focusing on reducing waste and carbon emissions, the organisers are seeking to set new standards for future major sporting events. Gallagher added that achieving these goals would not be possible without partners such as BYD, whose global reputation is built on innovation in new energy vehicles.
BYD’s involvement in Glasgow 2026 reflects its growing influence within the UK automotive market. The brand is at the forefront of the transition to electrified mobility, and its global leadership in new energy vehicles is mirrored by strong domestic performance. Throughout 2025, BYD achieved a 12.01 percent market share of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the UK, making it the country’s leading New Energy Vehicle manufacturer.
