Goal for a second Lando Norris now seems to have taken a liking to it. The Englishman from McLaren, who fulfilled his dream last December 7 in Abu Dhabi and became Formula 1 world champion after an incredible sprint that saw him defeat his teammate Oscar Piastri and above all Max Verstappen – beaten in the end by just two points – now that he has tasted the taste of success, he no longer wants to stop. The #4 of the Woking team was awarded at the Autosport Awards held in London as the best British driver of the year and in this context he entrusted a few words to the journalists present, relaunching his ambition also for 2026, despite the total technical revolution that Formula 1 has faced. A question of trust Successfully defending his first Formula 1 world title is “absolutely the goal”, Norris told the British media. Compared to the recent past, the Englishman finally appeared more confident and aware of his abilities. He himself underlined how having managed to win the championship provided him with a significant boost in terms of awareness of his abilities. “I’ve never been someone who has a lot of self-confidence, but now I definitely have more, that’s for sure – explained Norris – I’ve always been the type of person who only believes in what he sees and I’ve always had to see myself on the top step and see myself winning to finally believe I can do it”. The 2025 world champion revealed he made the first mental ‘switch’ in the middle of last season, just when it seemed that the championship was ending up in the hands of his teammate Oscar Piastri: “For the first time I felt I had the people, the team, the car and the right skills around me to go and win the championship. It’s the first time I had this type of confidence in myself and it turned out to be the right thing to do.” Now, Lando wants to do an encore.
Norris, one title leads to another: “The World Championship win gave me confidence, repeating is the goal”
