Trick or no trick While Formula 1 is starting to bring its 2026 cars to the track in the Barcelona Shakedown, behind the scenes there’s always talk about the issue of compression ratio. As is known, Mercedes would be able to bring the 16:1 required by the regulation at room temperature (ascript added in the October revision of the technical regulations) to 18:1 with the power unit in operation. The International Federation, informed in advance of what was happening, met with the engine manufacturers and agreed to use – in an undefined future – a measurement system capable of verifying this relationship even in operation. The concern, however, is palpable – especially on the part of Audi, Ferrari and Honda. And Red Bull? As reported in recent weeks, some reports suggested that it was not only Mercedes that used this trick, but also Red Bull – thanks to the technicians hired from the Silver Arrows.
This reconstruction, however, was rejected by Erik Van Haren of De Telegraaf, who has always been well placed in Red Bull circles: “Several media have reported that Red Bull would also use this trick, but insiders have strongly denied it.”
From Holland: Red Bull would not use the compression ratio ‘trick’
