Volkswagen Group UK has once again confirmed its position as the UK’s leading automotive group, recording total annual sales in 2024 of 472,056*, a figure which sees it increase sales by over 9,800 compared with the previous year. Together, the Group’s five car brands accounted for a 22.25 per cent of new car registrations in the UK.
According to UK registration data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Volkswagen Passenger Cars UK remained the UK’s best-selling brand for the fourth year running, with Audi in third place. Škoda set a new record, passing the four per cent market share figure for the first time. CUPRA and SEAT grew to achieve a new combined record market share of 3.4 per cent, with increases boosted by new products. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also had a strong year, retaining its second place in the sub-3.5 tonne van market.
All eyes were of course on electric vehicles with 2024 being the first year of sales under the zero emission vehicle mandate. Here, Volkswagen Group UK was the number one manufacturer group in both the BEV and PHEV passenger car sales charts.
Managing Director of Volkswagen Group UK Ltd, Damien O’Sullivan, commented: “Our 2024 sales are the result of a collective effort from our network and HQ teams and I’m delighted to see all brands doing well, buoyed by new, attractive products. This performance gives us a strong base from which to build, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the teams and our customers for their support and look forward to working with you all as we drive forward our ambitious plans for 2025.”
