Mladá Boleslav, 12 February 2026 – Škoda is transforming the in-car experience for its all-electric Enyaq and Elroq models with a significant infotainment update, bringing entertainment, seamless streaming, and intelligent safety alerts to drivers and passengers alike. Vehicles equipped with software 4.0 and higher now feature the AirConsole gaming platform, Škoda Play video service, native Spotify integration, AI-powered route planning via MyŠkoda, and the Traffication Emergency Vehicle Approaching alert. All infotainment features are part of the Media Streaming Package, free for the first three years in new vehicles.

Interactive Entertainment with AirConsole

AirConsole, developed by Swiss company N Dream, brings 15 engaging games to Škoda vehicles, including a Škoda-exclusive version of Tetris®. The system turns the vehicle’s infotainment display into a gaming screen during parking breaks, with smartphones serving as controllers. Both single-player and multiplayer modes are supported, with full integration into the car’s audio system for immersive gameplay. Additional games will be added over time. To access AirConsole, drivers need a Škoda ID, an active MyŠkoda account, and a smartphone with internet connectivity.

Personalised Video Content via Škoda Play

Škoda Play offers tailored video content from leading news and educational platforms, including Euronews, NASA+, CNN, Reuters, and Bloomberg. Developed using the 3Ready Automotive solution from 3SS, the service adapts content to user preferences and the specific vehicle. Playback is available exclusively when the car is stationary, providing passengers with informative and engaging content during charging stops.

Seamless Music and Podcast Streaming with Spotify

Spotify is now fully integrated into Škoda’s infotainment system. Drivers and passengers can log in with existing accounts and stream music and podcasts directly through the vehicle’s data connection, eliminating the need for a paired smartphone. All media-streaming applications are pre-installed, allowing instant access to content once signed in.

Enhanced Safety with Traffication Alerts

The Traffication application now includes an Emergency Vehicle Approaching alert, developed with HAAS Alert and its Safety Cloud® platform. Emergency vehicles transmit real-time position and direction data, which Škoda’s backend processes to provide clear on-screen notifications, distance markers, and animated guidance for forming an emergency corridor. The feature is active in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, with the Czech police joining next, and Škoda vehicles will be the first to support it in Belgium.

AI-Powered Route Planning in MyŠkoda

The MyŠkoda app now offers enhanced AI-supported route planning. Drivers can configure routes with greater precision, choosing charging stops near specific locations, limiting charging to Powerpass stations, or setting a minimum battery level upon arrival. These updates provide more flexibility for long-distance trips, ensuring a smoother and more convenient EV experience.

With these updates, Škoda strengthens its commitment to providing a connected, entertaining, and safe driving experience, transforming every journey into an opportunity for enjoyment, information, and reassurance. More details are available on the Škoda Storyboard.

Wide range of innovations – from improved driving dynamics and new driver assistance to a fresh interior experience and in-car gaming
New Black Edition and Vorsprung specification bring new technology and design highlights
UK orders for updated models to begin mid-December
audi CTO Geoffrey Bouquot: “These comprehensive innovations demonstrate the future viability of PPE and PPC”

Ingolstadt/Milton Keynes, November 26, 2025 – audi models based on the Premium Platform electric (PPE) and Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) will receive a comprehensive hardware and software update at the start of the new model year. New features will be added to the A5, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron series, with sales for the updated models due to begin mid-December.
“With the new model year, we will be further enhancing important model series and offering our customers a host of new features,” says audi Chief Technical Officer Geoffrey Bouquot. “These comprehensive innovations impressively demonstrate the future viability of the PPE platform for electric models and the PPC platform for combustion-engine vehicles.”
Many new highlights will be introduced that make the driving experience even more emotional, intuitive, and efficient – both in terms of hardware, such as new headlights, and software, in the form of new features for driver assistance and entertainment.
Driving dynamics: greater emotion, greater efficiencyWith the new drive select mode “dynamic plus,” audi S5 and S6 e-tron drivers can enjoy a particularly intense driving experience. This mode is specifically designed to deliver rear-biased driving dynamics and markedly sporty handling. In the audi S5, this is made possible by the active lateral distribution of drive power via the standard quattro sport differential and in the audi S6 e-tron by the electric quattro all-wheel drive system, each in combination with brake torque vectoring. At the same time, the electronic stabilisation control (ESC) automatically activates sport mode, which enables controlled oversteer.
Activating dynamic plus mode also automatically changes the display in the driver information system and the head-up display. In the combustion model, a central rev counter with shift light and gear indicator are shown; while in the electric model, a power meter is displayed instead. Furthermore, the audi drive select assistant will also be available. When activated, this function automatically adjusts the drive select mode to suit the driver’s individual driving style and the respective driving situation.
audi is also increasing the efficiency of the electric PPE models and improving regenerative braking: the vehicles can now decelerate to a standstill without transitioning to conventional friction brakes. This makes stopping particularly smooth and even more comfortable. The additional kinetic energy recovered is used for energy regeneration, improving efficiency and range.
Driver assistance: more safety, more comfortAn advanced form of adaptive cruise assist will be available in several markets. The system not only keeps the vehicle in its lane if the driver’s hands remain on the wheel, but now also supports lane changes initiated by the driver on the highway. Where possible, the driver can initiate assisted lane changes by activating the turn signal; the vehicle then steers into the desired lane.
Even greater safety and comfort in city traffic is provided, for instance, by traffic sign recognition. When activated, the vehicle autonomously adjusts its speed according to the traffic signs. The car also recognises stop signs, warning signs for uneven road surfaces, and right-of-way rules based on the information stored in the route data and can thus automatically reduce its speed as required.
As part of the model year change, audi is also expanding the parking and manoeuvring functions in the optional park assist pro. Reverse assist takes over steering for the last 50 metres when reversing, making it easier to back up, especially in narrow streets. The additional manoeuvre assist provides support in tight parking situations to prevent damage. One especially practical feature is trained parking: the system can save five different parking manoeuvres, each 200 metres long, and then perform them autonomously on private property. The new garage parking via smartphone feature even works without having to drive past the parking space first. It requires park assist pro with remote functionality, which is included in the Tech pro package for models in S Vorsprung trim.
Improvements in the interiorWhen you get into an upgraded model, the first thing you will notice is the new multifunction steering wheel. audi has replaced some of the previous touch-sensitive interfaces in the virtual cockpit with physical controls for operating various vehicle functions.
All of the models mentioned will feature the new user interface already familiar from the audi Q3. With its reduced icons and clear structure, operation has been made significantly easier. Customers can choose between three modes for the audi virtual cockpit – the classic round instrument, navigation view, or the integrated driver assist display. The audi smartphone interface functions will be integrated even more deeply into the infotainment system in the upgraded models. Users will be able to mirror their smartphone’s navigation, media, and telephone functions not only on the MMI touch display but also in the audi virtual cockpit and MMI passenger display.
audi assistant: more intelligence for on the goThe audi assistant is also receiving an update as part of the model year change. The self-learning voice assistant is being expanded to include new functions with artificial intelligence. By accessing information in the logbook, the audi assistant can answer detailed questions about your vehicle.
Thanks to the integration of ChatGPT, cross-functional operation will be even more intuitive. It will be possible to find destinations and entertainment content using vague descriptions – such as “the Italian restaurant with a view of the Rhine” instead of an exact address. Searching will therefore be more flexible and convenient. In the connected in-car office, users can access their calendar and emails via their linked account.
audi assistant will act as a digital companion, helping with organisation while on the road, for example, by reading out or writing emails.
Drivers will also be able to use voice control to operate a variety of driver assist systems, such as adaptive cruise assist and distance control. Moreover, the system will also recognise behavioural patterns and automatically adopt them as routines. Examples include activating adaptive cruise assist on the highway and raising the vehicle with the lift function. The latter is used, for instance, when driving over a railway track or a high curb.
An eye on everything: audi integrates high-resolution dashcamAnother new addition to the range will be an optional dashcam, integrated directly into the base of the interior mirror. The camera delivers high-resolution 4K videos and captures all the action in front of the vehicle. Thanks to High Dynamic Range technology (HDR) and an especially light-sensitive sensor, it produces detailed recordings even in challenging lighting conditions. Photo and video recordings can be easily started and stopped via a dedicated app on the central display. The event function is particularly practical, as it uses a continuous ring buffer recording. When activated – either automatically, in the case of an accident, or manually – it saves the 30 seconds before and after the incident.
If desired, automatic recordings can also be triggered by certain actions, such as activating the hazard warning lights or emergency braking. All data and recordings are only saved locally on an SD card – nothing is transferred out of the vehicle.
In addition to images and videos, navigation data, speed, and time are also recorded. All images and recordings can be displayed in large format directly on the central display.
Immersive “experience worlds” and extra gaming funWith the new “experience worlds,” audi is introducing tailored mood scenarios that use interior lighting, sound, massage functions, and climate control settings to create an invigorating or relaxing atmosphere in the vehicle. The Activating, Relaxing, and Harmonizing scenarios will be available at the start of the new model year. Once activated, they last between 10 and 20 minutes and dynamically adapt to the vehicle’s movements while driving. The all-electric models will also feature the Power Nap mode, which creates a calm and restful atmosphere for short breaks, such as while charging.
In-car gaming will become even more fun with the PPE and PPC model updates. Connecting controllers to the system via Bluetooth will make games such as “Asphalt Legends” even more convenient to play. It will also be possible to connect wireless headphones via Bluetooth and enjoy the full entertainment sound without disturbing the driver or other passengers. That is especially appealing when combined with active privacy mode on the MMI passenger display. The audi Application Store also offers access to other games such as “Queen Rock Tour.”
UK trim structure changesAs part of the updates, the trim structure across the A5, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron have been expanded with a focus on enhancing technology options, customer convenience, and value for money. A summary of the changes is listed below, with an in-depth overview available as a downloadable PDF document attached to this release.
A5 / S5Additions to the A5 trim structure include the arrival of a Black Edition and Vorsprung, the key highlights of the latter including a panoramic roof, B&O Premium Sound System, and Adaptive cruise control plus as standard. The new trims are also now offered on the S5, called S Black Edition and S Vorsprung. The Edition 1 specification has been removed from the entire A5 family lineup.
The optional Technology Pack (£2,495) has also been enhanced, and now includes Matrix LED headlights and a headlight cleaning system for the A5. A new optional Comfort Pack (£995) also joins the lineup, comprising a heated steering wheel and seat heating for the front and outer rear seats.
Q5 / SQ5Like the A5, the Q5 and SQ5 lineups also see the removal of Edition 1 specification, and in its place the arrival of a Black Edition and Vorsprung.
As part of the Technology Pack (£2,495) for the Q5, Matrix LED headlights and digital light signatures have been added. The Comfort Pack is now available on the Q5 family, too.
A6 / S6 e-tron & Q6 / SQ6 e-tronBlack Edition and Vorsprung specifications also come into the lineup on models based on the PPC platform: the A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron families. The existing Edition 1 trim makes way. The optional Technology Pack (£3,195) benefits from enhanced features such as Matrix LED lights, digital light signatures, heated steering wheel, heated seats front and rear, and comfort auxiliary air con.

The F-150 Lightning burst onto the scene a few years back and has become one of the EV world’s biggest success stories. There was a significant period where you simply couldn’t get one. However, there’s more to the electric truck than energy efficiency and rampant torque.

You can obviously use it as a pickup truck. The bed is very handy for transporting things, it’s capable offroad, and while it may affect battery life, the F-150 Lightning does have an impressive towing capacity of up to 10,000 on the better trims. But look beyond the obvious, and you’ll see Ford’s electric pickup is capable of so much more.

It has a writing desk

There’s a good amount of paperwork on a press trip. You need to fill in forms waiving your right to sue if you injure yourself, forms relating to photography rights, and sometimes forms outlining what you’d like for dinner.

I needed to do the latter the last time I went on a trip involving an F-150 Lightning, and it was surprisingly easy thanks to one of the vehicle’s less well-known features. With a push of a button, you can sink the gear selector so it lies flat. Once that’s out of the way, you can flip the top of the center console and create a generously-sized flat surface between the driver and passenger seat.

Theoretically, you can use this for any task that requires a flat surface. You can prepare dinner on it, if you don’t mind the risk of strewing the cab with stray food chunks. With that being said, I heard it described as a “writing desk,” and it functions perfectly well for that.

A frunk that’s worth opening the hood

Frunks are often pretty useless. Yes, there’s nothing inherently bad about extra storage space, but on many EVs, the bit under the hood is so small it may as well not be there. You can maybe store a small toolkit in there at best, and sometimes (as in the case of the Cadillac Lyriq) the manufacturer simply doesn’t bother.

EV Pick-ups seem to be the exception, and the Ford F-150 Lightning is one of those vehicles that gives you more space up front than you get in the back of many SUVs. It can comfortably hold several suitcases if you don’t want to risk leaving one in the bed. I’ve seen one filled with ice and serving food on a picnic, and it’s water-tight so you could theoretically use one as a big punch bowl if you don’t mind the taste of plastic from the liner. Either way, it’s one of the better features on the F-150 Lightning. Even if you do sometimes forget it is there.

Ford’s versatile infotainment system gives you entertainment options

Dave McQuilling / The Manual

Ford’s infotainment system in the F-150 Lightning is Android-based, so theoretically, anything that works on an Android phone or tablet should work on it too. So you can easily download whatever streaming app you prefer and watch your favourite shows (as long as you’re parked while doing so).

There are some interesting apps pre-loaded into the infotainment system, too. This includes a karaoke app, allowing you to sing along to a surprisingly broad range of tunes. Many of them are technically “covers,” but you’re not “hearing” the original singer on a karaoke track anyway. The words pop up on the screen while the car is stationary, but are obviously not visible when the vehicle is in motion. Still, if you want to sing along on your next road trip your passenger can connect a phone to the vehicle safely and see the lyrics on a smaller screen while the vehicle is driving.

You can camp in the bed

Dave McQuilling / The Manual

The F-150 Lightning is still a pickup truck at the end of the day, and those are defined by their “beds.” That bed can be used to transport things, but it also makes a great camping spot if you’re overlanding in your truck. It’s well sheltered from the wind and raised a couple of feet off the ground, which is great if you want to stay warm and avoid whatever is living in the undergrowth.

At the right time of year, if the weather looks good, you can camp under the stars. However, if you do want some shelter, there are plenty of aftermarket tents designed to fit perfectly in the bed of an F-150. They usually compact down quite well, and unlike rooftop tents you may find for smaller vehicles, the pickup-camping setup is pretty inconspicuous when the living space is “collapsed.”

Plugs everywhere

Dave McQuilling / The Manual

If you’re more into “glamping” than camping, you absolutely need electricity to power the various gadgets you’ve no doubt brought into the middle of nowhere with you. The F-150 Lightning is generous with its battery and provides plenty of outlets you can use.

In addition to the standard USB Cs for phone charging, you can make use of up to ten 120V AC outlets (depending on trim and packages). Four of those are in the frunk, two are in the cab itself, and another four are in the bed near the truck’s tailgate (though standard configurations only have two here). A 240V outlet is also available, if you want to get some welding done or rescue another EV that’s run out of juice.

It can power your home if push comes to shove

Dave McQuilling / The Manual

Arguably, one of the best features of the F-150 Lightning is the fact that you can power your home with it if push comes to shove. The huge 131 kWh battery in the “extended” version of the Lightning has enough juice to keep the average home running as normal for three days. This can (and likely will) be stretched out to ten days if power is “rationed.” This makes the F-150 Lightning one of the best vehicles available if you live rurally in an area prone to power outages. It can also be an absolute lifesaver if a natural disaster occurs.

However, things don’t need to go totally wrong for you to benefit from this feature. If the F-150 Lightning is plugged into your house, you can set it to add power to your system during peak times, then recharge itself in the off hours when electricity is cheaper. Exact savings vary, but it is possible to shave a good amount off your electricity bill this way.

XPeng unveiled the Mona M03 a while ago. This compact sedan immediately attracted a lot of attention and quickly became the company’s bestseller. It significantly undercuts the tesla Model 3 in terms of pricing, starting at RMB 119,800, which translates to roughly $16,900.

At that price point, you could expect a “cheap-and-cheerful” vehicle. The logic dictates that this has to be an EV with a lot of corners cut – cheap materials, a limited feature set. But since we got a chance to spend some time with Mona M03 we were actually able to check if that’s the case.

Design

The defining characteristic of the XPeng Mona M03 is its relentless pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency. That helps the car achieve solid range with a relatively small battery. The M03 has a drag coefficient of 0.194, which is the lowest ever recorded for a mass-produced electric sedan.

This allowing the EV to hit a range of 385 miles on the admittedly very optimistic CLTC, but even so it’s comparable to far more expensive rivals. This comes with a 62.2 kWh battery pack, supplied by BYD’s FinDreams. XPeng claims that this aerodynamic design adds about 37 miles of range compared to similarly sized competing EVs, proving that engineering can be more than just finding space for a huge battery. The vehicle is relatively lightweight, tipping the scales at 3,834 lb – and that certainly helps as well.

XPeng’s designers not only worked hard on the car‘s shape, but also added an active air intake grille that adjusts based on driving speed to improve airflow. The Mona M03 went through more than 100 hours of wind tunnel testing, which resulted in 15 key design changes to maximize its low-drag profile.

On the outside, the paintwork has a refined finish, and the doors close with a satisfying, high-quality “thud.” These seemingly small details make a huge difference in first impressions – we cannot stress enough that the Mona M03 does not feel at all like a vehicle at this price should. The quality of materials and finish is not far off premium European EVs.

Interior

Inside, the Mona M03 features a minimalist design anchored by a large 15.6-inch display. This screen is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, providing snappy performance for advanced features like 3D mapping and a 360-degree camera system. Drivers who prefer a traditional gauge cluster can opt for a small steering wheel screen for an additional RMB 599.

Air vents are hidden for a cleaner look and automatically adjust airflow, though you only get a single AC zone. The new interface has a youthful look, but its quirks do take some time getting used to. On a positive note, the 7.1.4 audio system delivers a rich, immersive sound that makes long journeys more enjoyable.

And then there are the materials used for the interior… Sitting in the driver’s seat, it is almost hard to comprehend the price of this vehicle. The seats are soft but supportive in that very special Volvo-like way, softer than VW or mercedes, and finished in high-quality leatherette. The details are well-thought-out, all the panels fit perfectly, and the plastics used in the cabin have high quality soft finish.

There is enough room inside the M03 for four adults to travel in comfort, even for extended periods. The rear passengers have as much room as the ones in the front, with the rear seats offering a comfy place to be. The full glass roof adds to the spacious cabin, making it airy and possibly much larger than it really is. Combined with the quality finishes, the M03’s interior is surprisingly well above its competitors, and it beats many European EVs that come at a much higher price.

Features

The Mona M03 makes one clear trade-off when it comes to passenger comfort for outstanding practicality. The car features a torsion beam suspension in the rear, which is bound to be felt on less than perfect roads. The simpler suspension does contribute to a generous 21.9 ft³ liftback trunk, though. With the rear seats folded down, cargo space expands to a massive 56.6 ft³, easily handling large suitcases and all your gear.

But the torsion beam setup means rear passengers may feel some jarring over bumps, and they sit in a slightly recessed position. The car‘s dimensions – almost 15.7 ft long with a 9.2 ft wheelbase – hide a remarkable agility. Its turning radius of just 17.4 ft is impressive, making the XPeng Mona M03 easy to maneuver in tight situations.

Performance in the 160 kW version is respectable if not thrilling, moving from a standstill to 62 mph in 7.4 seconds. Do keep in mind that 10 years ago, any sub-8-second car was considered to be very fast. In any situation on the road, this much acceleration is sufficient, and for many drivers, having this much power is a safer option anyway.

The steering is calibrated for a relaxed, comfortable cruise rather than sharp, precise turning at high speeds.

The tire and wind noise is well suppressed, hard to notice even at highway speeds. Again, these are qualities that are rare-to-nonexistent at this price point.

On the technology front, the M03 comes full Level 2 driver assistance system, with Lane Centering Control (LCC), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic Emergency Braking in all trims. The car is quite strict about driver monitoring, using a torque sensor and an eyeline camera to ensure you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

The XNGP (XPeng’s own Navigation Guided Pilot) is as good as it is in any other XPeng EV. It’s smooth and assertive, and in our short test drive, it didn’t need any help; there were no interventions, and the overall experience is that of being driven by an experienced driver. Taking the hand off the steering wheel is met with a quick reminder and a soft chime, nowhere near as annoying as it is in other vehicles.

First impressions

Chinese EVs are full of surprises these days, bringing great value, and a number of intriguing features. But the Mona M03 is arguably taking another step forward, offering a complete package that we didn’t think possible in these parts of the market until not that long ago.

The best bit? It’s coming to the Old Continent next year. A lot can change between now and then, but it definitely looks like it’s worth the wait.

They help prevent accidents, but sometimes, these features can be implemented in ways that might do more harm than good, which is why many owners wonder if it’s possible to turn them off and how to do it if so.

We already did an article explaining why these features exist, but we will now focus on how to turn them off most effectively in particular vehicles over a series of articles. Each manufacturer has its own take on how to integrate the technology, so in this series we will focus on learning how to turn off distracting features on the 2026 mercedes CLA C174.

Turning off the traffic sign recognition in the mercedes CLA

The procedure is wonderfully simple. Once you start the vehicle, a small icon appears on the top left part of the screen with a traffic sign on it. The function is set to “on” by default and resets every time you lock the car. It is a clever way to easily disable a mandatory function that works in a pretty annoying manner by beeping and lowering your audio.

Simple to turn off traffic sign recognition system

Turning off lane keep assist and others in the mercedes CLA

If you want to disable further assistants, you’ll have to do a bit more work. In the lower row of buttons in the center display, there is a permanent icon with a car. You press it and a menu opens, which allows you to choose which settings you want off at the time, including the lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and others.

From there you can also press the settings icon to open a further menu, allowing you to control all of the available safety features. This isn’t as straightforward as the fixed button for the traffic signs but is still intuitive and easy enough.

Lots of customization options for the safety systems.

We will turn this segment into a series, where we tell you how to easily and successfully turn on or off the assistance features of modern vehicles, which is a method that becomes increasingly complicated due to modern regulations!

Introduction

XPeng just launched its first-ever extended-range EV – the X9 PowerX – and we were in Guangzhou to have a closer look at the new version of one of the most futuristic MPVs in the market. The new version is hard to tell apart from the pure-battery model just by looking at it – it is 20 mm longer, but that’s really hard to spot on what is already a large car.

Design

The electric MPV sector is very popular in China, and the X9 has done very well for itself since its launch. The design of XPeng’s MPV is far from the usual box on wheels, and in the photos, it looks almost controversial.

But in person, it’s an entirely different story – its shape cleverly hides its bulk, making it look much smaller than it actually is. And after spending a day with it, we found it just makes sense.

Powertrain

Let’s start with the newest bit – the EREV part. XPeng spent a considerable amount of resources developing the new Kunpeng Super Range Extension System – quite a mouthful. There are three components to it: a 1.5 L turbocharged gas-powered generator, a 63.3 kWh battery, and a 281-horsepower electric motor that powers the rear wheels.

The gasoline generator sits at the front, where we usually find engines. The battery on its own can power the X9 for up to 281 miles and once it’s depleted, the generator kicks in and it can provide another 715 miles of driving range – that’s 995 miles in total. Of course, this is an estimate based on the very optimistic CLTC cycle, but even if the X9 PowerX manages to achieve 70% of this figure, that’s still a very impressive 697 miles.

XPeng predicts that thanks to the large battery, the X9 will be mostly used in its EV mode. Thanks to the advanced 800V architecture, the smaller-than-usual battery can recharge in record time – adding just over 186 miles of extra range takes 10 minutes.

Interior

To say the interior of the X9 PowerX is spacious would be a major understatement. Thanks to the enormous 10.37 ft wheelbase, passengers in all three rows have plenty of room. Of course, the middle row captain seats are the best place to be on any journey. They are super comfortable, they have heating and cooling, and come with a compulsory massage function.

There are USB ports in every seat and in the central console, plus there are wireless charging pads on the side of each seat.

The “zero gravity” option for the middle seats needs to realize how good it is. The seats extend to an almost horizontal position, with the head and knees of the passenger staying above the level of hips and ankles – a very relaxing position indeed. The seats are wide and soft; you feel like you are sinking into them, not sitting on them. By far they are the most comfortable seats in the X9.

The driver and front passenger have nothing to complain about, though. There is more than adequate room for people of any size; both front seats offer heating, cooling, and massage, and are upholstered in the highest quality materials. This is actually an overall impression of this vehicle – very high quality that honestly gives the likes of Mercedes and BMW a run for their money.

All the materials used inside the X9 are soft, the finish is superb, all the parts fit neatly, and the gaps are minimal, with all the parts aligned perfectly. There are no cheap plastics anywhere, even the bits out of sight are still of high quality – jumping into the X9 and closing the door feels like stepping into an oasis of silence. The double glazing probably helps a lot, but the quality of the interior is really impressive.

Back to the seating arrangement – the 3-seat bench in the rear is where MPVs usually make some compromises. Not here – the rear seat is fully adjustable, with the backseat split into individual parts so each passenger can recline as much or as little as they want. The sloping roofline and the steep rear window have no effect on the passenger comfort.

That steeply raked rear window does affect cargo space. With the rear seats up, you can only use the space up to the window line, really – but that’s still a huge amount of room. And if you don’t need the rear seats, they fold away neatly into the floor with a touch of a button. Once the back bench is out of the way, the cargo space is big enough for bicycles, bags, tents… It’s a true MPV.

The infotainment of the X9 is impressive, the built-in AI assistant is quick, and it delivers a true hands-off experience while driving. The driver can focus on the road and give the car instructions by simply speaking. Opening or closing windows, changing temperature, changing destination, adjusting seats, and audio – these are just basic functions that worked really well when tested. For the time being, it works best in Chinese, but with the new XPeng VLA 2.0, it will support many languages.

Riding inside the X9 is a pleasurable experience, thanks to the double glazing, the extra soundproofing that went into the chassis, and the air suspension, which came together to deliver a peaceful ride. It’s a bit boring, sure, but that’s a compliment on an MPV – the drive was smooth, silent, and uneventful. The silence was eerie, with no wind intrusion, and the tire noise was barely audible. Passengers from the rear bench can comfortably have a conversation with the driver without raising their voices. The middle row passengers can whisper to each other and be perfectly heard.

The air suspension evens out every road imperfection; there is no crashing over hard bumps, and there is absolutely zero sideways sway. In fact, the X9 felt more like a high-end German sedan than an MPV – it was poised and comfortable but not in the famous Chinese way. It was really composed.

As for the acceleration… Well, it was more of a wafting experience. The 0 to 62 mph sprint of 8 seconds won’t win any drag races, but the X9 PowerX can still be quick enough off the traffic lights. The powertrain is set up in a very progressive way, the acceleration is smooth and constant – never uncomfortable, never surprising. Overall, the vehicle delivers a very relaxed drive, and thanks to the rear-wheel steering, it is surprisingly easy to turn around even in very tight spaces.

We have to mention the XNGP – XPeng’s own ADAS. We only experienced it for a very short time, but it worked without a glitch. The initial impression was of a professional driver – smooth acceleration, assertive and well-indicated lane changes, all maneuvers were made safely and with confidence. It acted decisively in busy traffic situations, and it felt relaxed on the highway. It was easy to engage, and there was no need to take over during our short drive.

First impressions

We only spent a few hours in total with the new X9 PowerX, but we are left with very positive impressions. The powertrain is smooth and relaxed, and the range extender is a perfect backup for longer journeys where charging infrastructure is lacking. The interior is impressive, the comfort is up there with the best German brands, and the functionality is among the best MPVs on the market.

The X9 is coming to Europe in both the battery and EREV versions at some point next year. In China, the cheapest version is the MAX trim, which starts from about $43,500. The top-of-the-line Ultra version starts just under $46,500. Of course, once it lands in Europe, those prices will change quite a bit – but even if the X9 gets a $65,000 sticker price after all the taxes, the legacy automakers will have a tough time competing with it.

Volvo Cars is opening the order books for the 2026 Volvo EX90, now enhanced with hardware and software upgrades. Powered by the company’s new 800-volt electric system, the EX90 can charge even faster*, while a core computer upgrade enables new and improved safety, collision avoidance and driver support features.
New features include connected safety alerts for slippery roads, hazards ahead, and accidents ahead, along with the integration of automatic e-call** functionality with Emergency Stop Assist (ESA).
ESA is designed to bring the car to a controlled stop in its lane if the driver fails to respond to attention or hands-off warnings, for example due to sudden illness. Once the car is stationary, the new e-call feature will automatically connect the car to an emergency call centre linked to Volvo Cars. The centre can then speak with the occupants and contact emergency services if needed.
Other new features include expanded automatic emergency steering functionality in darkness, along with Park Pilot assist for parallel parking.
With the upgrade to a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, the EX90 now has 500 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of computing power, giving Volvo Cars the ability to push safety and performance even further through data, software and AI.
The upgrade is not just limited to new EX90s: owners of the 2025 EX90 will receive a one-time free upgrade of their car’s core computer through a scheduled Volvo workshop visit.
“The additional computing power enables us to harness the power of AI, data and software to further enhance safety and overall performance of the EX90,” says Anders Bell, chief technology & engineering officer at Volvo Cars. “This means we can provide our customers with advanced safety and driver support features, along with continuous improvements to the infotainment and battery management systems – all delivered seamlessly over the air.”
More power, faster chargingCompared to the previous model year’s 400V system, the new 800V architecture reduces heat generation during charging, enabling faster charging speeds. The charging performance is further improved by our in-house developed battery management software. Using a smart algorithm, it works in tandem with the 800V system to optimise charging, making it significantly faster than previously possible and adding up to 250 km of range in just 10 minutes.
On top of that, the 800V technology delivers more power for faster acceleration, while using energy more efficiently. Plus, the shift reduces material use, which helps lighten the weight of both the battery and the electric motors.
“The EX90 now features our most advanced electric system, delivering faster charging and higher efficiency, so you can feel more confident and in control,” says Anders Bell.
Additionally, the EX90 will now come with an electrochromic panoramic roof, first introduced on the recently launched Volvo ES90. This new roof lets you adjust the glass transparency, helping to reduce glare or boost privacy at the touch of a button.
These upgrades represent some of the most significant advancements coming to the 2026 EX90. Visit the EX90 model page [NK1] on volvocars.com for the full list of updates.
The small print

*Charging times can vary and depend on various factors such as outdoor temperature, battery condition and car condition. Our charging time was based on testing at 350 kW charging facilities.
** Availability of the automatic e-call function varies by market. If the function is available in the country where the incident takes place, the call centre can talk directly with the occupants in the car and contact emergency services if needed.

This new roof lets you adjust the glass transparency, helping to reduce glare or boost privacy at the touch of a button.Sep 23, 2025
