The rate of adoption of electric vehicles around the world and in Türkiye is increasing day by day. Instant torque power, low emission values and reduced maintenance costs are among the factors that make electric vehicles attractive. However, drivers who switch from gasoline or diesel vehicles to electric vehicles often face a learning process. Those who think that the difference between the two vehicle types is only the engine are making a big mistake. To extend battery life, maintain range and have a safer driving experience, experts point out 5 critical mistakes that electric vehicle owners should not make. GIVE UP THE HABIT OF 100 PERCENT CHARGING Users of vehicles with internal combustion engines are generally used to filling their tanks fully. However, fully charging electric vehicles negatively affects battery health. In models that do not have a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, constantly charging the battery to 100 percent shortens battery life in the long run. According to the SlashGear site, experts recommend keeping the charge level between 20 percent and 80 percent for daily use, except for long trips. In this way, you can extend the life of the vehicle by reducing battery wear. CONTINUOUSLY USING FAST CHARGING (DC) IS RISKY. Although time-saving DC fast charging stations offer great convenience for electric vehicle owners, using them every day damages the battery. High-voltage direct current causes overheating in the battery, accelerating the movement of lithium ions and reducing its charge-holding capacity over time. It is stated that fast charging should only be preferred on long journeys or in emergencies. Using slower AC charging units in daily routines allows the battery to be charged by resting. TIRE WEAR IS IGNORED Electric vehicles are much heavier than their internal combustion counterparts due to the weight of their battery packs. The added weight puts extra pressure on the tires, causing them to wear out faster. Frequent checking of tires is of great importance in terms of both safety and cost. In addition, choosing tires with low rolling resistance, specially designed for electric vehicles, affects the range positively. AVOID PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FULLEST. Although the instant torque and acceleration feeling offered by electric motors may be enjoyable for drivers, suddenly loading the pedal causes a large power draw from the battery. Continuous sudden accelerations significantly reduce the range of the vehicle and cause the tires to wear out more quickly. It opens. Those who want to reach the range promised by the manufacturer should prefer smoother and controlled acceleration. DO NOT DELAY SOFTWARE UPDATES Today’s electric cars are equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Battery Management Systems (BMS). In order for these to work better, it is vital that the software updates released by the manufacturers are made in a timely manner. Updates not only fix bugs, but also improve battery management, increasing range and optimizing temperature control during charging.

Vital warnings for electric vehicle owners: Here are 5 mistakes that drain battery life!
The new aerodynamics: goodbye to ground effect and the mobile wings become decisive
The power unit revolution has also forced aerodynamics to be revolutionized. The energy thirst of the new hybrid part, three times more powerful than in the past, made it essential to think of a new generation of single-seaters, much more aerodynamically efficient. Formula 1 thus says goodbye to ground effect and decisively embraces active aerodynamics, which becomes an important challenge. This time the FIA also intends to use an iron fist against the solutions arising from the holes in the regulation, changing its approach to the gray areas. The new philosophy The new regulations try to reverse the trend of recent decades, timidly returning to smaller, lighter and more agile single-seaters. The width goes from 2000 to 1900 mm, while the wheelbase is also shortened, with the distance between the front and rear wheels dropping from 3600 to 3400 mm. Furthermore, the parenthesis reopened in 2022 for ground effect cars comes to an end, returning to cars that still release a good part of the aerodynamic load from the bottom, but with a growing percentage from the wings. The Venturi channels therefore disappear, with the return of the good old flat surface, which is why cars will no longer have to work close to the ground, but will once again be able to turn higher. The suspension settings are gradually softened, moving away from the extremely rigid Formula 1 models of recent years, to the benefit of driving comfort and mechanical grip at slow speeds. There is also curiosity to see if someone will propose the rake setup again, with the car pitched forward to make the diffuser work better. As for the wings, the front one goes from 4 to 3 profiles and is narrower, the portion of which useful for generating aerodynamic load is contained inside the wheels. At the rear, the beam wing above the diffuser disappears, while the upper wing returns to a more squared shape and with the profiles increasing from 2 to 3. An even more important change, however, concerns the active aerodynamics, more complex than in the past, controlling the opening of 2 profiles of the rear wing and the same number of the rear one, for 3 times greater effectiveness than the previous DRS. It is no coincidence that this is a field where an important match is played. The importance of active aerodynamics Unlike the old DRS, the new active aerodynamics will not be usable exclusively in qualifying or for attacking. All drivers will be able to activate it at any time on a straight line or in any case in predefined areas, as it is essential to reduce resistance and reduce the hybrid’s electricity consumption. The cars will therefore have different aerodynamic modes: one with closed wings in corners, called Z-Mode, and the other with open wings on the straight, renamed X-Mode. At the discretion of the race direction, in some areas or in damp track conditions there will also be a partial activation, with only the front wing opening. The teams will have to develop not one but two aerodynamic stages, with all the resulting complications, as underlined to The Tech Formula by Andrea De Zordo, technical director of Haas: “Even just analyzing the data in the wind tunnel is much more complicated. Before there was a single configuration, which is why the balance and efficiency were verified with just that guise. […]. Now, however, the machine will normally operate in two standard configurations in different parts of the circuit. We need to understand what relevance to give to each of them.” Already in the past we observed a different effectiveness between the DRS of the individual teams, exploiting the interaction between the rear wing, beam wing and diffuser to reduce the resistance generated by the bottom. One can therefore imagine the opportunities that now arise with active aerodynamics three times more powerful, always available and acting on both spoilers. “You might be able to control what happens when the wings open and how the flow structure influences the rest of the car”, observes Tim Goss, Chief Technical Officer of Racing Bulls. The objective is to exploit the opening of the wings to also reduce the resistance of the floor, which will also work higher in the straight line, thanks to the decompression of the suspension when the wings are activated. The 2026 revolution also represents an opportunity to continue the aerodynamic cleaning work, improving the quality of the wake to facilitate close pursuits appendages present in the center of the car until 2021, which is why the suspension arms continue to be the only elements interposed between the front wing and the floor, playing an important role. The new single-seaters also adopt an inwash philosophy, with various elements to draw the trail inwards to reduce the disturbance for those chasing, however, they have the opposite interest, always trying to remove the turbulence of the wheels, as they are sources of losses for the floor aware, trying to counteract the practice through strict requirements on the shapes for the aerodynamic surfaces. Never before, the FIA is intent on ensuring that the teams respect the spirit of the regulations. ask us for clarification, we would never listen to you”, the warning to FormulaPassion from Nikolas Tombazis, technical director of the FIA single-seater department. “For any clarification we are asked by the teams, if we believe that the question we were asked is such as to actually indicate a gray area with little clarity, we would make sure to send an identical communication to all the teams”. The intention is not to repeat the case of the double diffuser of 2009, when there had been communications between the FIA and only some teams, leading the teams to work with different interpretations of the regulations. At least in words, the priority now is that the rules are clear for everyone. The expected performances In their current form the regulations present numerous differences compared to the initial draft published in June 2024. The first simulations envisaged worrying scenarios, with performances slightly superior to Formula 2. Since then the FIA and teams have made several changes, for example lengthening the diffuser, redesigning the bodywork in the wheel area and bringing the endplates closer to the style of previous cars. It is estimated that thanks to the changes the downforce has increased by 50 points, with the total going from -40% to -15% compared to the 2025 ground effect cars, values similar to those of 2022-2023. However, they are simple reference values, since there are very different predictions between the various teams, testifying to the development of different concepts. Overall, active aerodynamics could lead to achieving higher speeds on the straight. with burning acceleration thanks to the immediate torque of the electric motor. The reduction in minimum weight and the softening of the suspension will also improve agility in slow speeds, while the mileage in fast corners could worsen, although not by much. However, we expect lap times to be close to those of recent years, but only the track will be able to confirm this.

The two drivers, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz, have been confirmed, a couple capable of combining speed, experience and reliability, among the most balanced on the entire starting grid. The team principal will still be James Vowles, who will lead the team from the beginning of 2023.
The global electric vehicle market is experiencing uneven momentum
How emerging markets became the new growth engine
The most significant shift in the global electric vehicle (EV) story is happening outside of traditional automotive hubs. Emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and parts of Africa are increasing EV adoption at a pace few analysts predicted five years ago. By 2025, while only four countries exceeded the 10% threshold in EV sales in 2019, this figure will reach 39.
Southeast Asia stands out. Vietnam’s electric vehicle sales share has risen towards 40%, supported by domestic production and fleet electrification. Singapore maintains a penetration rate of over 40%, while Thailand has increased to over 20%. These markets compete with many European countries in terms of adoption speed.
A similar situation is observed in Latin America. Colombia and Indonesia recorded triple-digit annual growth rates in electric vehicles through early 2025. Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay and Costa Rica, on the other hand, reach electric vehicle shares close to the EU average, thanks to urban air quality concerns, fuel import costs and access to lower-priced electric models.
For many of these countries, electric vehicles serve strategic goals beyond climate policy. Electrification reduces oil imports, improves local air quality and supports industrial development. Where electricity grids are heavily reliant on renewable energy, efficiency gains are significantly displacing fossil fuel use.

Vietnam’ın elektrikli araç satış payı, yerli üretim ve filo elektrifikasyonunun desteğiyle %40’a doğru yükseldi.

Official, Zhou in the Cadillac as a reserve driver
No surprises This morning, as widely expected thanks to social media ‘spoilers’, Cadillac made official the hiring of the Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu as ‘reserve driver’ for the 2026 season. The newborn American team, which will make its debut in F1 this year as the 11th team, thus completes a line-up of four drivers: behind the owners Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas there are in fact the reserves Zhou and Colton Herta, a 25-year-old American driver who in the season that is about to begin, he will also be involved in Formula 2. After his farewell to Ferrari, Zhou thus remains in a third-driver role, while remaining within the orbit of the Prancing Horse: in fact, in its first three seasons in F1, Cadillac will use the power units produced in Maranello. The commercial impact that Zhou’s signature could have is also evident, as he is very popular in China and could significantly help the spread of the Cadillac brand in Asian countries. The words of Zhou and Lowdon “I am delighted to join the Cadillac Formula 1 team as a reserve driver ahead of the team’s debut in Formula 1 – declared Zhou – it is one of the biggest and most exciting projects the sport has ever seen. I have worked with Graeme [Lowdon] and Valtteri [Bottas] for many years in various roles, so joining the team is like finding my family again. Thanks to my recent experience on track and in off-track car development I know I can bring enormous added value to the Cadillac Formula 1 team and I look forward to supporting them in the best way possible.” Graeme Lowdon, Team Principal of the Cadillac team, added: “Our process of selecting a reserve driver was as thorough as the search for our regular drivers. We wanted a candidate who had recent F1 driving experience, was prepared to work hard as part of a team and understood the challenges of developing a car throughout the season. Zhou is perfect for this role. He will be a great asset to us in the 2026 races and we look forward to him becoming an integral part of our team.”

Goodbye Red Bull, this time for real: Will Courtenay starts as McLaren Sporting Director
End of gardening leave New year, new life. The historic popular proverb comes true for Will Courtenay, former historic Red Bull strategist who, starting from January 2026, will begin his job at McLaren in the role of sporting director. The English engineer himself announced it with a post on the social network LinkedIn, thus revealing the expiry of the long gardening leave period after the farewell to the Milton Keynes team made official in no less than September 2024, in the midst of the exodus which had also led to the farewell of Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley in just a few months. Red Bull then got in the way a bit by not facilitating Courtenay’s transition to the rival team, preventing the engineer from taking up employment at Woking until January 2026. The words of Will Courtenay “I am happy to announce that I am about to start carrying out my new role – writes Will Courtenay on LinkedIn – as sporting director at McLaren Racing. After 22 years at Red Bull, the last 15 of which spent as head of strategies, I am excited in saying that I am embarking on a new challenge by joining McLaren as the new Sporting Director. I want to thank all the people I have worked with at Red Bull. Over the years I have created many friendships and I hope to see most of you back in the paddock. “Now – continues the English engineer – I can’t wait to settle into my new role and my new team, with the hope of making many new friends and giving my best to help McLaren continue its recent streak of success in the coming seasons too”. Replacing Will Courtenay as head of strategy at Red Bull will be Hannah Schmitz, considered one of the best on the grid in the strategy sector after some bold tactical choices such as the one that allowed Red Bull to bypass the Ferrari wall by winning the 2022 Monaco GP with Sergio Perez.
Perez speaks: “Verstappen? Incredible talent. The problem is character.” And remember Brazil 2022
Checo re-evaluated The nightmare 2025 of the two drivers who alternated on the second seat of Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen – Liam Lawson, for the first two GPs, and then Yuki Tsunoda for the rest of the season – contributed to re-evaluating what Sergio Perez did between 2021 and 2024, when the Mexican had to occupy what, in his own opinion, is the “most difficult seat in the whole of F1”. This year Checo will return to racing in F1, in the new Cadillac team which will make its debut in the Circus. Interviewed during an episode of the Cracks Podcast with Oso Trava, Perez also spoke again about his experience with the Milton Keynes team and the difficulties involved in being alongside a driver like Verstappen, with immense talent and who has a ‘tailor-made’ team around him. Off the track the relationship between the two drivers has always been good: even in recent times Verstappen has expressed great respect and appreciation for his former garage partner and we cannot forget the crucial role that Perez played in Abu Dhabi in 2021 in winning Verstappen’s first world title. The dark side of Max However, there has been some friction between the two in the past, such as when – in 2022, after the World Championship had already been won – Verstappen refused to leave a sixth place to Perez in the Brazilian GP, despite having been asked by the team, to help the Mexican beat Leclerc in the head-to-head for second place in the championship. “Something happens with Max. Max is an excellent person, but something happens when he is in the car – said Perez, recalling that episode – he transforms, he becomes a different person. I think he had something inside him (in Brazil) that he never let out. We had talked about it and we thought that [il problema] was now behind us. The whole team thought so. So we were all surprised when he brought it out at that moment.” The reference is to an alleged willfulness on the part of Perez in a qualifying accident that had occurred months earlier, in the Monaco GP. Perez hit the wall on his last fast lap and caused the session to be stopped, thus guaranteeing himself a better starting position on the grid than that of Verstappen. Then in Sunday’s race, thanks to a strategic harakiri by Ferrari, Perez won that GP. Perez also cited the episode that occurred between Verstappen and Russell last season, in the Spanish GP in Barcelona, to explain a certain inability – in his opinion – of the Dutchman, in managing moments in which things don’t go as he would like: “Max is an incredibly strong driver from a mental point of view and has an impressive talent – highlighted Perez – he is very focused and is a huge resource for the team and a great leader. The downside, I think, is his temper. When things go wrong, he struggles to manage them, as happened in Barcelona. He closes in on himself. He has that side, but I also think he wouldn’t be Max if he didn’t have that.”

There is also great interest in the T10F, which we introduced to the market as of September. “The stability and the new interest generated by the T10F complement each other. This shows us that we are taking the right steps at the right time while expanding our product range. In 2025, we also introduced our dual-motor four-wheel drive 4More series to the users. The T10X 4More Obsidian special series stood out with its details inspired by the black tone of the obsidian stone.” Stating that there will be new color options for both T10X and T10F in 2026, Tosyalı said, “We are focusing on increasing the TOGG options that we will offer to our users with new models in different classes in the coming years. The most important thing for us is that our cars grow by establishing a long-term trust relationship with the users.” Tosyalı explained that as a result of the continuous improvement work they carried out on T10X, they achieved a significant improvement in user-generated quality feedback compared to the previous year, and emphasized that they recorded a 34 percent improvement in the indicators related to quality perception in the user satisfaction surveys they constantly measure. Expressing that they commissioned T10F at a better starting level in terms of quality indicators compared to the period when T10X was first put into operation, Tosyalı said that this situation is a concrete reflection of the learnings they have gained in the product development, production and quality management processes. 5 MILLION SUCCESSFUL CHARGING TRANSACTIONS Fuat Tosyalı pointed out that Trugo, which offers an uninterrupted and comfortable service to all electric vehicle users with ultra-fast chargers in all 81 provinces in Türkiye, is also the market leader and said, “Trugo, as a licensed charging network operator, has reached 5 million successful charging operations since April 2023. With its collaborations in 81 provinces, it has more than 2,200 stations and 4 “We serve all electric vehicles with over a thousand sockets, and use energy obtained from 100 percent renewable sources in ultra-fast chargers. We continue to add power to Türkiye’s electricity transformation with our uninterrupted energy, widespread charging network and high-speed charging solutions.” Emphasizing that TOGG has expanded its network of experience and service points with new collaborations in order to contact more users, Tosyalı continued as follows: “Today, TOGG offers service to TOGG users in 81 provinces with a total of 22 experience centers, 14 of which are fixed and 8 mobile, and 76 service points, 41 of which are physical and 35 of which are mobile. Our priority is to offer the best experience to our users at every contact point. The pilot application started in December.” We have new representative dealership and service points in Antalya, Bursa, Gaziantep, Trabzon and Tekirdağ. It is very valuable for us that our users know that they are close to a reliable solution point that they can reach quickly when they need it. With this new structuring, we aim to further strengthen our TOGG ecosystem and reach our users more effectively in all regions. We are creating our expansion plans for 2026 entirely in line with user feedback, field data and the needs of the ecosystem. Stating that TOGG will grow with a balanced and sustainable approach in 2026, he stated that they will continue to work in line with their goal of steadily growing T10X and T10F sales and market share in the Turkish market. Stating that they will continue to work on expanding user preferences with new color, version and model studies on the product side, Tosyalı said, “We plan to expand our sales and after-sales service network with representative dealership agreements. In Germany, we aim to gain momentum in our second calendar year in the market. In summary, “We see 2026 as a year of deepening, maturation and growth. We will continue to continuously improve our products with software and digital services and grow in a controlled but determined manner in Europe. Our priority will always be user trust, quality and sustainability.” he said. RELATED NEWS

Shell: the real challenge of the 2026 petrol revolution
2026 marks the advent of new generation fuels, synthesized entirely from advanced sustainability raw materials. This is an absolute novelty for Formula 1, in which the biggest challenge is to optimize the emissions of the production process, so as to enjoy greater freedom in the formulation of a petrol that guarantees maximum performance. FormulaPassion explored the topic in depth together with Valeria Loreti, Technology Manager of Shell Motorsport, supplier and partner of Scuderia Ferrari HP also for the next cycle. A paradigm shift “There is a fundamental change in the concept of fuel and it does not concern the chemistry of the final molecules,” explains Loreti. “These are always hydrocarbons. The difference lies not in that, but in the origin of the carbon atoms at the base of the molecules. Until today we had the possibility of extracting everything from oil. This is the fundamental change: in the new 2026 fuel, oil cannot be used, except for 1% of the molecules, as additives, denaturants and other similar things that cannot be obtained otherwise. 99% of the molecules in petrol, however, must be extracted and processed by something else”. The starting point is therefore the choice of the advanced sustainability components most suitable for obtaining the hydrocarbon molecules with which to synthesize the final fuel. Loreti continues: “There is a very wide variety of feedstocks, of raw materials from which we begin to work. For example, there are residues from agriculture, the wood industry, paper, the food chain, municipal waste such as rubbish, organic waste or recycled plastic. There is a very wide variety, the result of the technological freedom granted by the FIA starting from the material”. “We need to understand which processes can be used on a certain material, how easy it is to produce and what can be extracted from it. From sugar cane processing residues, for example, ethanol can be obtained, which can then be further modified.” The properties of 2026 petrol, therefore, depend on the production processes and raw materials that offer the greatest freedom to optimize its composition. “The idea is that research is no longer just on the final product and the best formulation for the engine, but that it moves back in the chain to understand what feedstocks are available, what materials and molecules it can extract, what processes it should use and how to optimize them”. The limits to be respected The new regulation offers greater freedom in the composition of the fuel, but introduces other limits on the production process. The Delivery Manager of Shell Motorsport explains: “The new directives for 2026 impose a limit on the emissions linked to the extraction process of these molecules. It is a bit as if the environmental impact were counted. The principle on which the FIA refers is the Renewable Energy Directive, the mother of all European fuel regulations. It establishes, for example, that all feedstocks are second generation and that they must not compete with the food chain, which is why it cannot use wheat. If biological residues are used, the fields must not have been cultivated specifically for that.” Photo by Stephanie Tacy/NurPhoto via Getty Images “All this is calculated based on which raw materials are used. You must demonstrate that you have respected all the criteria, documenting the chemical process applied to obtain the final molecules and the energy used. The more energy you use, the greater the equivalent emissions of carbon dioxide. The type of energy also matters, because if it comes from a fossil source it will have a higher equivalent emission than the renewable one. All of this can always be optimized and improved. The supply chain also matters, that is, how I move it the molecules from the production plant. In our case, all Formula 1 fuels are blended at the Shell Technology Center in Hamburg.” The similarities with the budget cap It is a regulatory mechanism that has some similarities with the budget cap. The challenge is to get the most out of the resources granted, which in this case are not spendable money, but rather the carbon emissions of the production process. “When making the formulation, you have three parameters: performance, efficiency and environmental impact, i.e. the equivalent emissions of CO2. You have to find the balance between all three. Naturally, performance cannot be sacrificed and neither can efficiency. You have to find the right process and molecules and, if I don’t have them, I have to come up with a way to optimize everything. You can change the supply chain or the production technique itself. For example, there are catalytic processes that take me from alcohols to a mixture of hydrocarbons similar to petrols: I have to understand if they suit me, if I should refine them further and if I should add something else to them”. Just like the budget cap, there is also a check on compliance with the emissions ceiling. Loreti continues: “The calculation is done on the final mixture, which is why all the individual components and processes are checked. There is a third party from the FIA that takes care of the audit. The equivalent CO2 emissions are calculated and compared with those associated with a traditional petrol of fossil origin. The reference value can always be found in the Renewable Energy Directive”. This is a limit subject to the variability of European legislation: “They are sustainable fuels, not neutral, because the reduction of equivalent gases is 65-70% or more. This is the reference defined in the Renewable Energy Directive in force in this period. If next year they made a change to this regulation and the objective became higher, then it would automatically become higher for us in Formula 1 too”. A long-term project For Shell, the 2026 fuel is the product of work that lasted four years: “We started working on this project at the beginning of 2022, when the fuel in use was frozen. As we could no longer change it, we diverted our attention directly to 2026. We had four years for a very different research project from the one carried out so far, not only because we had to understand these advanced sustainability components, but precisely because of the time available, which allowed us to explore various avenues and various ways of conceiving fuel. We had the opportunity to try things that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, completely new molecules. These are things that you can’t do if you have little time, because if they don’t work, you’ll be left with nothing in your hands.” “This exploratory phase has allowed us to understand which molecules we really want but which are nowhere to be found, how we can create them, where we can start, which processes we can exploit”. In these four years Shell has gone through a divergent phase, exploring all the possibilities present at the moment, also with a view to the future. The regulation, in fact, will allow the fuel specification to be updated in 2027 and then again in 2029. Valeria Loreti concludes: “We continue to look for new opportunities and new molecules today, because there may be processes that are still in their embryonic phase and which are too uncertain today, but which within two years could lead us to something interesting”.
Warning to those who will buy a vehicle in the new year! They got the worst score: An automaker is withdrawing

Bridgestone urges motorists to start the new year in control as icy conditions grip UK roads
As millions of motorists return to work following the festive break, Bridgestone is urging drivers to take simple steps to stay in control, with freezing temperatures and snow creating some of the most challenging conditions of the winter so far.
Despite the increased risks, new figures show that tyre safety continues to be widely overlooked. According to road safety charity TyreSafe, more than six million illegal tyres are currently in use on UK roads, leaving motorists dangerously exposed at a time when grip and braking performance matter most1. Bridgestone warns that many drivers are heading back into daily commuting routines without carrying out even the most basic tyre checks.
Bridgestone’s Consumer Sales Director Drew Chapman said the start of the year was a critical moment for motorists to reassess their vehicle safety, particularly as cold and icy conditions persist.
“The new year is a chance for motorists to reset their habits,” Chapman added. “Your tyres are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road. What really matters is making sure they are legal, correctly inflated and in good condition could prevent a breakdown, a collision, or something far worse.”
The call comes as statistics from Bridgestone highlight how complacency continues to put lives at risk, with 63% of motorists delaying the purchase of new tyres until their car fails its MOT. In addition, 23% of drivers never think about the risks of dangerous tyres, while 11% would only change tyres once they were completely bald2.
And in terms of young drivers (aged between 18 and 21), three in five never check their tyres at all.
Drew added: “These figures show why tyre safety can’t be an afterthought. Driving on unsafe or illegal tyres risks a £2,500 fine per tyre, three penalty points, an MOT failure, or something far worse. A few simple checks could prevent a breakdown or collision this winter.”
Bridgestone’s winter driving tips:
Regularly check traction when roads are wet, icy or unpredictable. Apply the brakes gently to judge grip and adjust your driving accordingly.
Check tyre pressures monthly, and always when tyres are cold. Use the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended levels and inspect for cuts, bulges or embedded objects.
Ensure tread depth meets the 1.6mm legal minimum. Insert a 20p coin into the tread; if the border is visible, the tyre needs replacing.
Brake in a straight line before entering a bend. This maximises grip and vehicle stability.
Avoid cruise control in wet, icy or snowy conditions so you maintain full control of acceleration and braking.
Avoid non-essential journeys during severe weather. If conditions are dangerous, your safety must always come first.
Chapman concluded: “A small amount of preparation now could make the difference between a safe journey and something far more serious. Your tyres are the only parts of the car in contact with the road, so we urge motorists to treat them with the respect they deserve.”
Bridgestone’s tyre safety plea forms part of its wider commitment to safety and sustainability. It also aligns with the company’s E8 Commitment, which guides its mission to deliver social and customer value across eight key areas: Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease and Empowerment.

Chinese car brands could go bankrupt at any time
2 However, there is a serious fragility behind the bright surface of the painting. According to experts, we are entering a difficult period for Chinese manufacturers. 2026 is a candidate to be a year in which “sorting out” will be clearly felt in the industry. Analysts’ expectation is that new car deliveries in China will decrease by approximately 5 percent next year. This will be the sharpest contraction since 2020. Excessive production capacity and the gradual withdrawal of state supports are among the main reasons for this decline. In particular, changes in financial policies have narrowed the room for maneuver for producers. The 10 percent tax exemption applied to electric vehicles will be reduced to 5 percent as of January and will remain at this level until 2028. Moreover, it is not yet clear whether the 20 thousand yuan (approximately $2,900) exchange incentive will continue.

A farlo sapere è Staffetta Quotidiana.

Attention to those who turn the steering wheel all the way: If you hear that sound, the cost is at your door.
6 STEERING WHERE IT IS Another mistake made is “dry steering”. Turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is completely stationary and the tires are stuck to the asphalt wears down the surface (base) of the tires in contact with the ground like sandpaper and puts 5 times more load on the front team parts (tie ends, ball joints) than when maneuvering in motion. As much as possible, get used to turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving, even if it is very slow (at the speed of an ant). If you absolutely must turn while stopped, take your foot off the brake slightly to allow the vehicle to roll. This will break the friction resistance of the tires and relax the steering box. The steering wheel is the part of your vehicle that you use the most; Being gentle with it will save you from searching for a “steering gear” in industrial corners.

Nasce BMW Alpina: nuovo logo e nuovi progetti
Nuovo logo e nuovi progetti

Even in F1 there is an entry fee: Norris and Verstappen exceed one million euros
How much it costs to win Sometimes you don’t think about it, but the Formula 1 World Championship also has an entry fee for participating drivers, just like any other ‘minor’ championship. Except that in the golden world of the Circus the figures circulating are not exactly those of your karting championship on Thursday evenings. According to FIA regulations, in order to register for the following season, drivers are charged a base fee plus an additional amount for each point obtained in the World Championship during the previous year. In 2026, the basic fee established by the Federation for obtaining the super license necessary to race in Formula 1 is 11,842 euros, with a supplement of 2,392 euros for each point obtained in the 2025 season. Even without being an ace in mathematics, a good calculator is therefore enough to establish how much each driver on the grid in 2026 will have to pay to the FIA to compete. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, separated by just two points ahead of the Englishman at the end of last season, are the only two drivers to exceed the million euro mark: the new world champion from McLaren will have to write a check for €1,023,658 to the FIA, while the four-time world champion will pay €1,018,874 into the federal coffers. Third in the World Championship, a short distance from the first two, came Oscar Piastri: the Australian with his 410 points collected comes one step away from the million and will have to pay €999,562.

Renault Filante sta arrivando

Overtaking mode and energy management: this is how they will work
Grands Prix are preparing to change face in 2026, with a race dynamic much more focused on energy management. The role of active aerodynamics also changes, which in turn delegates the task of facilitating overtaking to another tool. It is the direct consequence of the power unit revolution and their growing electrification, from which it is appropriate to start in order to understand how the battles on the track will develop. Power unit, what changes The heart of the power unit remains the V6 combustion engine, coupled to a hybrid system with various innovations, starting with the elimination of the second electric motor. The MGU-H, the generator that recovered energy from the exhaust gases through the turbo, disappears, while the MGU-K, the unit that provides thrust directly to the wheels, remains. The power of the latter has almost tripled, going from 120 to 350 kW, equivalent to 480 horsepower and approximately 50% of the overall power. Together, the MGU-K and the combustion engine promise a peak even higher than the 1000 horsepower of the old power units, but it will be practically impossible to always have them all available, as the battery has a limited capacity and therefore not being able to always power the hybrid system at maximum power. By regulation, the battery cannot accumulate more than 4 MJ of energy, the same as last year, despite the power having been tripled. This is a very small capacity, such that the car will have to continuously recharge the battery while driving, with the further difficulty of having one less energy source, having lost the old MGU-H coupled to the turbo. It will therefore be up to the MGU-K alone to take care of the task, both by recovering energy during braking and by using the combustion engine as a generator, absorbing its power in a straight line. The control unit will have to manage the energy sparingly, choosing in which situations to unleash all the available horsepower and when only a part. From the steering wheel it will be possible to select various mappings for the electrical part, renamed as Recharge, in the case of the battery charging strategy, and Boost Mode for more aggressive exploitation of the hybrid system. However, energy management will depend above all on the more or less conservative driving of the pilots, whose simulator training will be essential to choose when and at which points to push or recharge the battery. Variable rules for each weekend. As regards the control unit, it will manage the energy by cutting the electric power in a straight line, also diverting part of that of the combustion engine from the wheels to the battery to recharge it. However, there was a fear that the cars, losing power, might slow down on the straight so as to force the drivers to downshift. This would have created safety problems, since, depending on the management strategy, the sudden slowdown of one car would have caused large differences in speed compared to the others at the same point on the circuit. The FIA has therefore drawn up rules to curb these practices. Once you reach 210 km/h, the control unit will not be able to suddenly cut more than 150 kW, around 200 horsepower. After at least a second with the accelerator fully flat, the power of the power unit can be further reduced, but according to a well-defined progression and without ever cutting more than 600 kW in total. This could still mean that the cars arrive at the end of the straight with less than 200 horsepower, but their low aerodynamic resistance, thanks to the moving wings, should ensure a normal speed trend. The regulation also imposes constraints on battery charging. In a straight line, the MGU-K will not be able to absorb more than 250 kW of power, limiting the use of the combustion engine as a generator. The electrical energy that can be recovered over the course of a lap is also limited, equal to 8 MJ in the race and 5 MJ in qualifying. Both for charging and for power cuts, however, these are simple reference values that the FIA may modify depending on the circuit and in extreme cases even during the current weekend. In fact, fast and braking-poor tracks such as Baku and Monza will be a problem for energy management, while the more tortuous ones such as Monaco and Singapore will be the least worrying. The overtaking mode The thirst for energy of the new power units has also influenced the aerodynamic philosophy, requiring cars that have low straight-line resistance to reduce consumption. Hence the use of active aerodynamics, with the opening of the front and rear wing on every straight for all participants, not just those chasing. In fact, unlike the old DRS, which is three times more powerful, the new active aerodynamics is not an aid for overtaking, but an energy management device. The 2026 cars will therefore be faster on the straight, raising some safety concerns. To avoid reaching dangerous speeds, the regulation requires the power of the electrical part to be progressively cut once 290 km/h has been reached, until it is completely eliminated at 345 km/h. Also in this case, the FIA reserves the right to tighten or loosen the restrictions depending on the tracks. The aim is to avoid reaching top speeds that are too high for the safety standards of some circuits, particularly for city circuits like Monaco, where great energy management will not be needed. Furthermore, the same rule offered the opportunity to introduce an alternative overtaking mode to DRS, called Overtake Mode. This is a mapping that will allow attackers to use greater electric power between 290 and 355 km/h than defenders, up to 320 horsepower more, provided they have sufficient energy in the battery. To unlock it, the attacker will have to stay within one second of the defender and will have this until he passes to the next detection point. However, the Federation will establish the exact amount of the power bonus four weeks before each Grand Prix, also based on the characteristics of the circuits. Between hardware and software The development of the hybrid part constitutes one of the main battlegrounds for engine engineers. The first challenge will be to meet the minimum weight, set at 35 kg for the battery, compared to 20 kg in the old regulations, and 16 kg for the MGU-K, up from 7 kg in the past. As regards the performance of the various elements, the objective will not be to develop as much power as possible, as this is limited to 350 kW by the regulations. Rather, what will make the difference will be efficiency, i.e. the ability to reduce energy losses to a minimum, increasing the energy useful for powering the electric motor for longer. The individual efficiencies of the battery, inverter and electric motor fluctuate between 95 and 99%. However, these multiply among themselves, which is why even a single percentage point can make a difference. Furthermore, the more efficient the hybrid, the less heat it generates, requiring smaller radiators to benefit weight and aerodynamic efficiency. Much in this will depend on the effectiveness of the cooling fluids of the electrical components, developed by the partner companies of each manufacturer, as in the case of Petronas for Mercedes. The game depends a lot on the development of the hardware part, especially the battery. However, also pay attention to the work on energy management software, which will be subject to constant refinement during the year, with consequent changes in hierarchies on the track. The teams will also have to develop specific energy management strategies for each circuit, where the driver’s guidance will make the difference. The teams have been aware of this for some time, as Haas technical director Andrea De Zordo warned already in June: “With the new regulations, simulator preparation could be even more important than now and that of the driver will be too.”
Honda prolunga stop produzione in Cina

BYD broke a record but didn’t please anyone
BYD, China’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, closed 2025 with a new sales record. The company completed the year with a total of 4,550,036 vehicle sales. This figure means an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the previous year. Yes, there is a record, but it is clearly seen that the growth rate exceeds the old days. THE TABLE WAS WEAK IN DECEMBER.IBYD sold 414,784 passenger vehicles in global markets in December. This level indicates a decrease of 18.6 percent compared to the same month last year and 12.7 percent compared to November. Thus, the company experienced an annual sales loss for the fourth month in a row. However, the picture is not pessimistic in every aspect. Foreign sales showed a remarkable performance in December. BYD’s sales outside China reached 133,172 units. This figure means a 133 percent increase compared to last year and was recorded as a new record for the company. ELECTRIC AND HYBRID BALANCE IS CHANGING In December, BYD’s fully electric vehicle sales decreased by 8.2 percent on an annual basis to 190,712 units. The situation for rechargeable hybrid models was harsher. Sales in this segment amounted to 224,072 units, a decrease of 25.7 percent on an annual basis. It is worth remembering: BYD had completely stopped sales of internal combustion engine vehicles as of April 2022 and decided to continue its path only with electric and hybrid models. LOSS OF MOMENTUM OVER THE YEAR NET BYD’s fully electric vehicle sales in 2025 were 2,254,714 units. This means an increase of 27.9 percent compared to 2024. On the other hand, plug-in hybrid sales decreased to 2,288,709 units, decreasing by 7.9 percent on an annual basis. With this change, the share of electric vehicles in total sales increased to 49.6 percent in 2025. The share of hybrids decreased to 50.4 percent. So the balance is slowly shifting in favor of fully electric models. On the other hand, BYD’s sales outside China exceeded the 1 million threshold for the first time. The company sold 1,046,083 vehicles abroad during the year. This means a very strong increase of 150.7 percent. THE TARGET WAS ACHIEVED BUT EXPECTATIONS WERE HIGHBYD announced a sales target of 5.5 million units at the beginning of 2025. In fact, it was rumored behind the scenes that this figure could go up to 6.5 million. However, the target was reduced to 4.6 million units in September. The level reached at the end of the year remained very close to this revised target. 2026 MAY BE MORE CHALLENGING The real question mark for the company is the expectations for 2026. Sales are weakening in the Chinese domestic market. The BYD brand experienced a steep 35 percent decline in China in November. The contraction in the domestic market is expected to exceed 10 percent in 2025. RELATED NEWS

BYD continua a crescere in Italia.

Michael Schumacher turns 57: tribute from Ferrari, Mercedes and F1
Best wishes, champion Today Michael Schumacher celebrates his 57th birthday. This is an inevitably special anniversary, like all those following the now sadly well-known date of 29 December 2013, the one in which the German champion had his tragic skiing accident on the snows of Meribel. As happens every year on this date, social networks were flooded with messages, thoughts and photos dedicated to the seven-time F1 world champion, showing once again how great the affection of the world of motorsport and not just for the Kaiser is still great. Among the more ‘institutional’ posts, those from Ferrari and Mercedes could not be missing, the two car brands which – in different periods and in different ways – have marked the career of the German champion. “The day a legend was born,” wrote Maranello’s official social account, publishing a photo of Schumi. “Happy birthday, Michael. A true F1 icon and an important part of our history”, echoed the official social channel of the Brackley team. Finally, a thought could not be missing from the official F1 channel, which wanted to remember Kerpen’s phenomenon using one of the most recurring images of his career: celebrating, on a podium, after winning a Grand Prix dressed in red. Happy birthday, Schumi.

Shock for those who say they can fix the car themselves: BMW blocks ‘screws with logo’
Automotive giant BMW has applied for a new patent that is of great concern to vehicle owners and mechanics. The company is working on a “screw with logo” design that is impossible to open with standard tools and can only be intervened in authorized services. According to documents appearing in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database, BMW is working on a special screw head design that reflects its own logo. In the diagrams in the patent documents, it is stated that it is impossible to loosen or tighten these screws with standard screwdrivers or wrenches. ONLY AUTHORIZED SERVICES WILL BE OPEN. To perform the operation, special equipment is needed, which is available at BMW authorized services or provided only by partner brands. The statements in the documents clearly reveal that the recesses in the screw heads prevent the use of common tools. In other words, vehicle owners may be confined to authorized services for even the simplest repairs. BMW’S EXCUSE: SECURITYAccording to the logic of the German manufacturer, the special screw head design provides a high level of protection against unauthorized interventions. The company states that the screws will be used to fix components such as consoles and seats, but they can also be preferred in other parts. RIGHT TO REPAIR DEFENDERS ARE CONCERNEDBMW’s vision of allowing access only with approved tools seems like a right step in terms of security, but it fuels the “right to repair” debate. Brands such as Nissan and Skoda were previously criticized for restricting access to spare parts. On the other hand, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) considers part restrictions as a violation of rights, indicating that BMW’s patent may face legal obstacles in the future.

Official: Zhou-Ferrari, goodbye. The Chinese towards the Cadillac
From red to black Zhou Guanyu’s Ferrari adventure lasted exactly one year. The Chinese driver, who left Sauber at the end of the 2024 season, was the third driver of the Prancing Horse for the entire last season. In this 2026, however, the paths of the class of 1999 and the Scuderia have separated: with an announcement published on the team’s official social profiles, Ferrari announced Zhou’s farewell, thanking him for his contribution and wishing him the best for the future. Grateful for Zhou Guanyu’s commitment and contribution as Ferrari Reserve Driver this season! Wishing him all the best ahead pic.twitter.com/mxmyYlW0O6— Scuderia Ferrari HP (@ScuderiaFerrari) January 2, 2026
The Chinese, however, will remain within Ferrari, at least as a power unit: his future will almost certainly be in Cadillac, also in this case as a reserve driver behind the owners Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas and alongside the American Colton Herta, who in the meantime will also be involved in his debut season in F2. Cadillac itself published a post on its social channels that contains several clues about Zhou’s next arrival in the team. The cat’s eyes – the Chinese driver’s favorite animal – actually have within them a reflection of the #24, the one used in F1 by Zhou himself. The announcement will take place on Monday.
